But they both were Top-4 with the Flames.... at the end of his rookie year 2008-09 BB (before Bouwmeester) when the Flames made the playoffs year after year Pardy was putting in 20 minutes a game partnered with Phanuef and was a plus player.

That is why he got the big contract

and Butler was top 2/3 in 2011-12.

And Butler is incorrectly pencilled in as a lot as top-4 this year according to some and SOB #5/7.

I am of the opinion that your 11th and 12 th forwards and your 6 and 7th defenceman should be under a million per season. You need that extra 500k to build buffers for later player moves on your top lines or to add or a playoff run.

I prefer Pardy's game over Butler's to begin with, but at over a million saved it is a no brainer.

Terrible contract for Pardy. Goes from 2mil/yr...to barely over league minimum.

Average TOI

2008/09: 15:00 / 20:00 or more 6 games / +3 for the year
2009/10: 15:50 / 20:00 or more 2 games / -3 for the year
2010/11: 14:40 / 20:00 or more 2 games / +3 for the year

I too would prefer Pardy at that price over Butler as a 6/7th defenseman, but the pride of Bonavista has never been more than a lower pairing D-man.

it would be great if we could have someone who is "boots on the ground" in Bonvista, NFLD to give us some insight into the amount of partying and whatnot - although, maybe you don't have a party when your paycheque gets cut in half.......

Market value for a fringe NHL player that has bounced around the past few years.

He is #4 though unless we're throwing one of Smith, Cundari, SOB, Russell or Breen into that spot. Ouch. Hope Poirier was worth it.

Both Russell and SOB have played 16-18 minutes / game on better defense corps than this one.

If Butler plays #4 minutes he will have to earn the spot. He is not a favourite of Hartley as he was of Brent S.

I wasn't a fan of getting Russell until I saw his fight highlights.... Not as good as a big scrappy d-man but standing up for his teammates a heck of a lot better than basically any regular playing Flame last year.
