I live 30 minutes away from SF Airport. This is insane. It's all over the news here. The pictures and video are chilling.

Initial analysis is suggesting the plane, for whatever reason, undershot the runway. Obviously just speculation, but they have said there was no indication with flight control or passengers that something was wrong in the moments leading to the crash.
One passenger on the plane thought they were way too low too soon.

Couldn't of been that chaotic during the exit of the aircraft, as several passengers shown exiting in the pic are carrying their bags with them. Fuselage is fully in tact. I would say vast majority walked away from this.

And this is the reason people die.... This angers me so much that people took time to grab their bags in a life and death situation... seconds can mean living or dieing in these situations... You leave your bags, regardless if its under your seat and easy to grab... It gets in the way, people panic, straps can get caught, you can drop in, people can trip, etc.... Actually irritates me quite a bit.

A witness said the plane cartwheeled?! After a landing like that I can't imagine calmly grabbing my carry-on luggage before exiting.

It didn't cartwheel, it spun around like a top. That witness isn't exactly sure what a cartwheel is.

I think part of the problem stems from the inability of the airlines to compensate people financially after all of their belongings have burned to a crisp. I remember people having to wait for days before they got a dime from Air France after that Airbus went down in Toronto.
Obviously no excuse to risk lives trying to get your suitcase out the door, but it sucks to lose everything.

There was an episode on Mayday about an accident just like this. A 777 landing at heathrow came up short because they lost fuel to the engines, something about cold fuel with ice in it plugged something with ice.
