Young players get plenty of ice time. Lottery pick. Two first round picks next summer.

Stanley Cup in 2018.

I expect Sam Reinhart next June. And I'm okay with that. Next year is not our year. But two years down the road, it could start to be.

We maintain a steady pace.. 31-29-8 and we trade away pending UFA's for some draft picks..

We proceed to 35-29-8 and suddenly we actually think we have a chance for playoffs..

Then we go 36-38-8... we all let out a big sigh and realize the rebuild might be a long one.
Season by season, the Young Guns Era, adequately described . . . . .

They're gonna happen whether you decide to cheer for them or not.

Too bad McDavid isn't eligible in 2014. This is going to be brutal.

Wasn't it really only 2001-2002 with Turek that we ever got off to that kind of blazing start?

Best case scenario -- youngsters play out of their minds and we just end up missing the playoffs. Oilers finish last. We win the draft lottery. Rinse, repeat.

Voted playoffs because I still think that should be the expectation every year, not because I really think it'll happen.

That and to bug the oil fans who want to cheer for losing. never for me

I'm not cheering for losses, but I do think that this roster will really struggle next year, and that we're in for some growing pains over the next two seasons. I foresee a team that competes for the #1 overall pick in 2014, and finishes around 10th in the conference in 2015. Hopefully after that they take off a little bit.

Florida is worse than us,

Thats the only team on paper we might be better than. I think though this team will have some heart and will be better than the sum of its parts. So I think 25th or 26th but it will get ugly.

Despite it not being good long term I would love to see us be in the playoff hunt at the deadline but I just dont see where the wins are going to come from.

I'm thinking bottom 5 is quite likely. I'm excited to give some of the kids a chance to make a name for themselves, I'm excited to see what Ramo can do and I'm happy that we're not gonna be a pushover this year. Teams may beat us, but they'll dread playing us.

They will be awful, you can count on that. The defense last year was atrocious, and they have primarily the same squad again this year. Whichever goalie earns the starting role is in for a long season.

Florida had several key pieces miss a 1/4 to a 1/3 of the season. They'll be better next year. Not playoffs better, but better.
