I remember back in the early 80's, when the Flames were still playing in the Corral, Billy used to be on the post-game wrap up on the Flames on 2&7 hockey games. One time color commentator Gary Dornhoefer was doing a post game with Billy and smoked him in the face with a whip cream pie. They went to a commercial and when they came back Billy was still cleaning his face and glasses of the whip cream and muttering under his breath the whole time. I think I have that on video tape somewhere.
RIP Billy!!

Mike Lownsborough had very similar stories of beer any and all times of the day on the fab with Kirsch. It sounds like it was pretty common knowledge, and what I heard certainly wasn't judgemental in nature. It doesn't sound like Bill was ashamed of it, so to disregard his fun loving nature is probably not how he would expect to be remembered.

Murder charges have now been laid against 35 year old Derek Puffer, Stepson of Bill and Donna Lee Powers.

love how folks around here rag on francis, based on a rumour of what he might of said - i guess reporting the facts is not as easy as it appears to be? but it is sure easy to give an opinion......

Yes. Police originally went because a naked man was reported in the area. When they got to where the man was, they learned about the murders.

Kill your parents, and then remove your clothes and go wandering around the neighborhood naked. Sounds like a crafted "Insanity" legal defense.

Fortunately, it is a hell of a lot harder to prove insanity than that.

I finally saw a picture of the guy and now I can place him. What a horrifying time for the rest of their family.

Ages ago I worked at a place that Billy Powers frequented. He was awesome. Would hang out and tell us jokes and funny sports stories. We always enjoyed a visit from him.
Met Donna lee the same place. Just awful news.
Will raise a couple tonight and tell jokes.

About three years ago a buddy and myself went to peanuts pub for a few pints and sat down at the "island" and enjoyed Bills stories, we really enjoyed his stories and there were many.
On June 21st (2013) I was invited to peanuts with another friend, As we walked in I told my friend, "the last time I was here, Billy Powers was sitting ...right there!" .....fast forward a few seconds....."There he is!...Hilarious!" ....fast forward a few hours and a few great stories later about ...Lanny, Pepper, Theo..and..on and on...
Me and my friend were not "awe struck" but we talked about our encounter with Billy often and repeated his jokes as best we could for the days following.
This week, with the news, me and my friend who shared that great time with Bill Powers were speechless and ........ just speechless.
RIP Bill Powers.

Yup, remember that well.
XL Radio was THE rock station to listen to back in the 70's. Matter of fact I think it was the only rock station, before FM really took hold. All those personalities on that station used to sound so cool when you were a kid, but I distinctly remember Billy more than any other with his gruff "Weatherrrr......in a minute!!!", right after his sports clip. I thought he was the coolest sounding dude. I moved away for ten or so years and then heard Bill doing radio on QR. When I got a chance to see him, I was surprised to see that this guy that sounded so cool in the 70's was just some average looking middle aged guy. I had always pictured him as a long haired 70's Chong type with a beard!
I seem to remember him pushing drag racing commercials on radio too for Calgary International Raaaaaaceway. I think that was him. Anyone remember that, or was that him?
Anyway, don't forget to go out and get your XL sunspot!
