Just like O'Brien and Russell, Butler is likely just another bottom 2 guy who will be fighting for those spots every D-man not named Wideman, Brodie, or Giordano. Seems like Feaster's game plan is to throw as much poop at the wall as possible, hoping some of it will stick. I know the Butler hate is threat level midnight around here, but he's a decent insurance policy in case none of our younger guys step up.

Solid depth as in cold hard solid 3" deep butter or kinda soft depth when left at room temperature?

Billins was an undrafted FA last year by the looks of it. Put up some decent numbers in Grand Rapids last year & won the Calder Cup. Another LH shot, sub-6' defenceman.

Is that how the whole Moneyball thing works? Sign & trade for a zillion of the same type of player?

Reaction

Butler: Blah.
Billins: Who? Google, google, google, ok... just so long as it's a two-way deal. 24 (so not old) with solid numbers in the AHL.

For Defence, select the left player

For Forwards, select the right player

If the zillion of the same type of player is undervalued then yes. Moneyball is about exploiting under-valuation.

I like these one year deals. Very little risk, but have the potential to get us something at the trade deadline.

It almost feels like we have finally started to make some good decisions over the past couple of months.

Butler is a decent #5D. The price and term are reasonable. Give him more NHL experience and hell be just fine. Hell never be a legit top 4D.

Because on this crap team he is a #5-6. Russel is a 6-7 making $1.5 million and some did not see that as a problem.

I've watched Chad Billins ALOT whenever the Heat play the Griffins. Now my job is to watch the Heat first and foremost, but everytime I wander my eyes to the other team, it seems like it's always Billins doing something awesome.

Excellent signing by Feaster. Billins is going to be great for the Heat. Glad he's on our side.

Butler isn't as bad as people make him out to be. This place can be a real peanut gallery sometimes.

The average NHL salary was $2.5 million last year. Butler is making 2/3rd the average salary.

Whoooohoooo!

Another year of Butler! It's as if watching him over the last two seasons wasn't more than enough to know he is a useless sack, lets give him a raise and try it for another year!

Can't wait to see him paired up with SOB, it's gonna be exciting.

I don't see the big problem. The Flames are going to be bad next season.....if they decide to trade Butler later in the season near the deadline for a pick he'll be attractive to some team looking for depth going into the playoffs and a player on a one year deal. He's not fantastic, but he's not as terrible as some people think he is.
