Chad Billins is a good offensive D-man. Definitely a good acquisition for the Heat at a minimum.

Cost certainty in hand, Butlersoft can now be traded to some other team with the mistaken impression that he has value.
Although. Sam Reinhart....

I sure hope that Butler can learn to stop giving the puck away...

I hate Butler too, but how is this a bad signing? He can be moved at the deadline with this contract if need be.

Billins was born the day after the Flames won the Cup.

Chad Billins had 10g, 37p in 76 games in his first AHL season and was an AHL All-Star.

Why would Billins get an NHL deal. A little puzzling. I know you need depth but if you run into trouble in that regard it's fairly easy to sign a guy like this to an NHL deal middle of the season.

Good contract for Butler. I know he's a whipping boy but for that money he's solid depth defenseman.

Everyone clamouring for a high draft pick should be happy with this deal. He is an adequate warm body with an adequate 1 year term. Nothing to get too high or too low about.

Not thrilled about Butler, but I like Billins on an AHL deal. My sister goes to Ferris State so I saw Billins and Zach Redmond (WPG) quite a bit. Was always a smart, steady defenseman for the most part, w/ flashes of an offensive game. I believe he was an AHL All-Star w/ Grand Rapids as well last season, his first year pro.

More meat to stick in the sausage maker.
The quality going in doesn't matter really, as long you season it right it probably tastes good.
