Good return for Anaheim IMO.
Can't afford him with Perry and Getzlaf making 16+ million a year.

But thats two pretty good young players and that 1st round pick could be top 10.
Outside of losing Alfie, What makes the Sens a top ten pick candidate? Made the playoffs two years in a row. Made it 4 out of the last 6 years. They add Ryan and they miss the playoffs?

Price is a little steep I guess, but I still really like this deal for the sens.

I know over at HF picks/prospects > established players, but this is a steal for Ottawa.

They have an internal cap and spent a huge amount of money on Perry and Geztlaf.

Boston, Detroit, Montreal, Tampa Bay, Toronto, Buffalo, Florida

That's not an easy division and they need to finish top 4 to make the playoffs.

Boston and Detroit will be the class of the Division, Montreal won the division last year, and Tampa Bay and Toronto won't be pushovers.

Plus they lost Alfredsson who was their heart and soul, and Gonchar who was a big piece is gone and hasn't been replaced.

Bobby Ryan needed a change of scenery (like Turris). He is still young and this change could rejuvenate his carrier. This relieves future cap issues for the Ducks, and restocks the shelves with young prospects and a 1st round pick.

I think this is a win for both sides. I really don't think you can pick one over the other.

Buffalo and Florida are crap. They are still ahead of Tampa.

edit: I'm also not convinced that Montreal will be as good this year.

The more I look at the pieces that Anaheim got back I give them the win here. Silverberg has top 6 forward written all over him and he will only get better, Stefan Noesen is a pretty good blue chipper who will be an NHLer and a 1st for a guy who has never really become what he was projected to be. I would take the Ducks return imo.

They also manhandled the Habs in the playoffs.

He's a top forward in the league, however you slice/dice it.

Ottawa is good now, and only trending up. It makes sense to give up pieces that may be good 3-5 years from now to get a guy who likely gives you 25-35 goals immediately.

Not 100% convinced on Ottawa either.

They are a team that has been punching above their heads for a couple years now.

Think you have to have Detroit and Boston as locks, but it will be a battle between Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto, and Tampa Bay for the last two spots.

They have the best coach in the division though. They have the edge but if they finished with say the 10th overall pick would anybody be that surprised.

Jesus Christ, why does every trade have to be "ZOMG THEY GOT FLEECED". Sometimes there are just good trades that make good sense for both teams and are fair. This appears to be one of those trades, much like the Seguin trade.

I bet Ryan was one of the good young players only a year or so away from free agency that JF was kicking tires on at the draft for a package that would have included one or both of our late firsts.

As someone who hates the Sens I would be pretty surprised to see their pick be top 10.

They are better than Montreal, TB, Buffalo and Florida and at worst even with TO.

Ryan getting passes from Spezza should see him scoring 30+ and easily being a better player than Alfredsson.

Anderson is the big key as he likely doesn't repeat last year but as long as he doesn't turn into a pumpkin I think Ottawa finishes 6th-8th (10th at worst).

For Anaheim Silvferberg is decent but seems like a 2nd line guy with 50 point upside. Not bad but a big step down from what Ryan offers. Noesen does not look good and a borderline NHL guy down the line if he makes it at all. The 1st again looking like a iffy pick if it is in the teen range. Seems like a quantity for quality deal and those rarely work out for the quantity side it seems.

Are you excluding Detroit and Babcock when you say this?

I could easily see the Senators being a lottery team next year. Could be a huge pick for the Ducks.
