Yup, Ramo probably doesn't come over if the money is too much less. 2.75 isn't going to hurt the Flames in the next two seasons.

At this point if he plays anything less than a 1B goaltender, it's a waste.

I'm sure Feaster had to give a little if he wanted to sign Ramo. No question he was looking for this type of money if he was going to sign and come over.
We have no cap issues, it's for two years, and hopefully we found our next starting goalie. If not we have Laurent Brossoit, Reto Berra and Jon Gillies waiting for their chance. Low risk, high reward. Good signing.

So then go and give Emery a proven goaltender the money.
It should not matter whta the KHL will pay him. Thats like saying Butler could get $3 + million in the KHL so we should give him that.

While money isn't a huge issue in the next few years with the space we have and the team we will ice I don't think the team should just toss around contracts without thought.
Not a killer deal but seems higher than need be looking at other deals out there.

Meh, 2 years on Ramo at that fare isn't terrible. I doubt the Flames are spending to the cap, and if it doesn't work out we're not saddled with a long term high dollar contract.

It's a two year deal not three or six. 2.75 is good. Wow the twittersphere and some here are just too hard on the Flames.

Giving Ramo that contract just sets a bad precedent for the organization. Will Brodie be asking for $4M now? Backlund $3M?

The reason they paid Ramo is because he could probably make even more in the KHL.

Why sign Emery when you can sign a goalie with much more upside?
I'd rather go with Joey Mac than sign Emery.

It's higher than it needs to be when compared to proven NHL goalies, but not when you have to lure him away from likely ~5 million plus term from the Oligarchs.
I'm just glad Feaster didn't tack term on top of it.

Only if they were coming over from the KHL where they were making that much or more. Not a comparable.

$2.75 AAV does seem a bit much for Ramo but I imagine you have to pay a bit more to convince him to come over from the KHL. It's not so much it handcuffs the team in any way, especially over these next two years, and we have to see what this guy can do.
I don't mind it all things considered, now just hope he out-earns it!

The Ramo contract isn't that bad. It's 2 years, helps us get to the cap floor, and I highly doubt he'll be an utter failure. What is reasonable? $750k less? $1MM? Is it really that big of a difference?

On a rebuilding team that's probably 3-4 years away from having a chance at making the playoffs, would you rather have a proven 30 year old goaltender, or a 26 year old who has the potential to be our goaltender of the future? Not that I necessarily have faith in Ramo, but I'd rather do what we need to do to give him a shot than sign a stopgap like Emery.

How do you know that Ramo has more upside? Just because Feaster called him the best goaltender not in the NHL?
I have no problem with them signing Ramo, but that is to much money for a guy that might not even be a quality backup.

Jesus, some of you guys are dramatic. It's a two-year deal, and probably around market value for what a starting goalie would get in this league. Get over yourselves.

What is all this crap about getting to the floor? We are not at the floor right now and ownership has never been cheap, so it will never be a problem.
