Just my opinion.

I don't think the market has really changed. The cap is only going down this year. There is talk that it will be over $70 million for the following season.
It really only handcuffs a couple of teams, and looking at those teams, they all seem to have centers already. Hell, the flyers with little money, just signed Vinny for $4.5 million and they have a bunch of centers.

Just don't pick him off waivers.

Would anybody just pick him up off waivers. 4 years remaining with a $5.5 million dollar cap hit.
Could see it happening. Spend a premium to not have to battle it out for him as a UFA.

I guarantee Feaster will be talking to Grabo and his agent. It all depends on if the term x $'s work for the Flames and if Grabo wants to play on a rebuilding team.

Agreed.
That's 16M bucks to do nothing (+ whatever his nest deal gets him). Can't get much of a better gift then that.

He last signed with the Leafs... clearly he has no problem with playing for crappy teams.

Hard working hockey player with good ability to handle the puck and a strong skater. I've read that the knock on him is his physical game. That being said I like him as a player and would be satisfied having him fill a top 2 line center role while some of the talent develops. He may not be interested in a rebuild having spent so much time doing so in TO.

I like Grabo, I watched a lot of Leaf games the last two years and he stood out a few times as being a way harder worker than what I expected based on reputation alone.

If claimed on waivers, Leafs eat half salary?
That's a very good deal no?

This is the summer of love for Calgary. They could come out of this offseason with depth at centre. Imagine that!

Dump truck full of money sounds like a good gift to me.
I wonder if this means he won't sign with anyone for a while as he'll likely be busy getting married, honeymoon, etc.

Would not surprise me if the Flames claimed him. Very tradeable asset in the last year of his contract.

I could see it happening. Given the shallow pool this year, he would instantly become one of the more targeted free agents available.

I'd assume that if someone wanted him at his current ticket they'd just call the Leafs and get him via trade in exchange for future consids. It would remove the priority list as a concern and save the Leafs a buyout. That a trade hasn't happened would more say to me that teams that want him want him on a cheaper deal.

If we're going to overpay for a top 6 center I'd rather it be this guy than Bozak. At least Grabovski can play a gritty game from time to time.

Grabovski works hard but and skates fast but seems to have lost his touch completely.
When he's not scoring, with is most of the time, he brings nothing to the table physically, is average in the face-off dot, does not kill penalties, is questionable at best in the defensive zone, and has never seemed particularly popular with his teammates.
This is a very smart move by the Leafs, and the Flames should want no part of this player. Bozek is so obviously superior in every aspect of the game that I can't believe there is even any debate about which guy to keep or target.

Why? Grabovski is small had 16 pts in 48 games and was -10
Stajan 23 pts in 43 games +7 and a bigger body.
Jones isn't worth 4M but he replaces Tanguay who has virtually no value or potential for the Flames.

Bozek was much better playing on the same team. Are you saying Carlye is an idiot for playing Bozek 20 min and Grabovski 15?
He was 3/4 in Toronto.. and would be 3/4 here.
Any team where he draws in as #2 centre is in serious trouble....... Like the Leafs were when he was a top 2 centre.
