Three year entry-level contract with a base salary of $650,000 (2013-14); $675,000 (2014-15); and, $700,000 (2015-16), with an AAV of $925,000 (including entry-level performance bonuses).

nothing anywhere about his plans to come to Calgary this year.

I know he signed, but i don't know if he is coming over. I'm pretty sure the flames had to sign him in the spring or he would have gone back into the draft. They might not have cared if he was coming over or not, just as long as his sig was on paper.

Don't watch HIFK, but from what little I did see and read, it appears that his game didn't really take the kind of backwards step that some predicted would happen when his brother left.

His season was fairly similar to last season. I detected some extra assertiveness in his game at the U20 compared to the previous season, but at the same time I didn't see any big leap forward either. I'd say his season was fairly positive but only those who watch him regularly can tell how much his game progressed.

He got plenty of ice time on a team that seriously lacked offensive talent and whose leadership was in disarray. One thing I noticed was that his game seemed to improve after U20 when he was put in the center position with HIFK. In fact as far as I recall he was the first line center for some time thereon.

Not ready for the NHL. Don't know when he'll move the AHL but his brother's experiences might help him a little bit there.

Next season, if he stays in HIFK, he'll have the honor of playing with Rico Fata. Interested to see if Rico is good enough to keep a spot in the lineup. Teams are pretty quick to get rid of foreign players who don't contribute.

You missed Cory Stillman. This was our fourth time drafting 6th overall.

Randy Sportak ‏@SUNRandySportak 18m Haven't heard but haven't asked with other things on the go. Would think he'd come to prospect camp but that's not gospel

Yeah and Stillman was a pretty good pick although the best of his career came post Flames.

I'm no expert on the Granlunds but I thought Markus was a better skater than Mikeal.

I think so. A bit faster, more straight-forward style, a bit more attitude. Plays with more passion than his cerebral brother, but I don't know how consistent that is.

He doesn't play like his brother so the challenges faces aren't exactly the same. At the same time, he does need to get faster and small players always face serious challenges trying make it on the NHL level no matter where they come from.

Never been that high on him but he does have a chance. He has a decent shot and he isn't burdened by the crushing expectations his brother has to carry. I don't see why he couldn't score a few goals in NA.

I should add that there's really no reason to delay his arrival in NA. If you want to play there, you have to get the culture shock out of the way at some point and spending another season in Finland won't make it any easier.

Always thought his brother stayed in Finland for too long. You can't prepare for the NA game in Finland no matter how long you wait. When you're mature enough, you should go right away if there's a good spot for you waiting. If you can't get ice time in NA, then that's a different story.

Just going by past history, I don't know of any Euros that the Flames have signed that didn't come over here. Even Ortio came over and played for the Heat until it was seen that he needed more time and went back to Finland. I'll be surprised if he isn't at our training camp and the Heat's training camp.

True for both Stillman and the Flames. Two Stanley Cups for Stillman. Conroy and Moss for the Flames.
