Default Anyone know what's up with Granlund?

All this prospect talk has me thinking about this guy. Had a breakout at the WJC last year, and a good year with HIFK (I think). Is he signed, and is he coming over this year, does anyone know?

he was signed to an ELC, yes. If he immediately comes over or spends another year at HIFK, I don't know.

Thanks. With the sudden glut of young players just wondering where he fits - maybe no room until we shed Stajan's contract and others next year.

Word is that he's not ready anyway, probably needs another 1-2 years of development before we'll see him in the NHL

His older brother was in and out of the Wild's lineup this past season and he's a lot further in his developement.

Sure, but he seems to have progressed a lot in the past year. Hopefully he's in camp this year for a good look.

Any of our Finnish friends have some input on what he's looked like during the season?

He's definitely coming over. Granlund is sure to need some time in the AHL before he's ready for a look with the big club. Not sure that he will develop into anything, but who knows, I've just never been high on him. He did have a good season last year, 10 g 20 a in 50 games played, second most in his team, playing against men. He averaged just over 17 minutes of ice time.

His stats dropped a little this season since he wasn't playing with his brother. I think he also made the switch back to centre, so that was also an adjustment. I'm not that high on him but you never know, he's progressed fairly well.

I hope he pans out, but I'm not holding my breath. His performance at the WJC this past xmas was good though, so who knows. Definitely will need a year or two of AHL seasoning to adjust to the NA game

I can't find the link but I had read he was coming over this summer and would play in the AHL if required. Of course things can change, especially with all the player movement that has just taken place.

Yeah, the whole team had a bad season. Next season is bound to be better though since they just signed none other than Rico Fata. Granlund I think played some games as a center and some as RW/LW.

He's not ready yet. Also if and when he comes over, he will probably play 1-2 years in Heat as a learning experience. He needs to elevate his skating, not very fast & kind of clumsy style, smart player though, and I see his upside as a top9 player.

Do you have a source, or is that just a guess?

Thanks for this. Not very fast and clumsy? Doesn't sound very hopeful. Hockey smarts can go a long way though.

Well he's signed by the Flames and that's the logical place to put him. If he doesn't make the Heat, he'll either go to the ECHL or back to Finland.

Yeah, but coming over to NA has done wonders to players. His brother Mikael isn't or wasn't a very good skater either, but just one year in Minnesota, and you could see the progress. Almost stunning how much they learn from just one year.
