It's no coincidence that the year he gets traded the Saddledome flooded. Lets face it we all should set aside a moment of silence every day to honour his greatness of entertaining Flames fans for all those years all while earning a paltry $80 million while at it. A man that loved Calgary so much he sold his house within weeks after being traded to the team of his dreams. He's a real hero.

Yeah the house thing bothers me. You banked 80 million bucks from us over the past 15 years. It's not like you were playing for a discount. Couldn't you at least wait until the season is over to sell your house?
Or did you need that $4mil as a downpayment on your mansion in West Van? Terrible optics.

I have to admit it's kind of odd seeing how many years he spent in Calgary that he would just close shop that quickly. At the end of the day Calgary was never his home and he was only a Calgarian when he was getting paid by the Flames.

As my first post around here (long time viewer, first time registering on CP), I'll say this:
Move on Flames fans. When Iggy is put into the Hall of Fame, they're not going to put an astrix next to his name that says "betrayed his fan base by going to the Canucks." Come on now.
Was Gretzky treated the same way when he jumped from team to team? No. Probably because he already had his cup. But still, I wish people would stop getting all up in arms about this.
His best chance for a cup is with Chicago or LA.

I think the rumours are legit. He probably is looking at those teams including Vancouver.

What do you guys want from him a personal million dollar cheque and him living beside you for the entire year. That still would probably not satisfy you. Obviously he knew he was getting traded before the deadline did some planning. He stayed in calgary for 8-9 months every year. Can a guy not go and relax in his summer home in BC. As much as i hate the Canucks BC's a beautiful place I wouldn't mind living there. Dosen't he have ownership with the blazers as well? Another thing, who else would you have given $80 mil too someone would have gotten it.

I know Iginla's family and they LOVED Calgary. He was a great Flame and a great Calgarian. I would not be surprised at all to see Jarome and his family settle down in Alberta after a few more years of chasing his Stanley Cup.
Enough with the drama.

Why do people bother pointing out crap like that. No one is confused about whether it's "Iggy's" right to play whever he wants (if they will have him). People are aware of what his "rights" are, they are talking about what he chooses to do with these "rights".
It's Iggy's right to do a lot of things. It was Tiger's right to sleep with thousands of women, it's not a crime and he is free to do so. But every choice has consequences to the one making it and others, that's what is being discussed here, not whether Iggy has the "right" to play in Vancouver........of course he does.

Good to know that Iggy playing for a rival is the same as what Tiger did. A new Iginla Transgressions thread?

Was there a point to this post? There are no consequences for him choosing the Canucks. Zero, nada. He probably doesn't give a flying you know what to a small group of self-entitled Flames fans that feel he owes Flames fans anything. The rest of the fanbase is like me that doesn't care or others that will hope he does well there and will continue to cheer him on.

Didn't say that actually. My post is there for you to read, please find where I said Iggy playing for the Nucks is the same? You are only pointing out your own lack of ability to process multiple ideas at once by driving to the conclusion you just did.

If Gretzky had played his entire career for the Oilers and then was dealt to LA and went to UFA and signed with the Flames the fans would have tore the statue of him down and pissed on it. No doubt in my mind.

I assume you mean Vancouver. And if he does choose Vancouver (for the record I doubt he will), your last scentence just proved the point some people on here are upset about. That's exactly what many feel the problem would be should he choose Vancouver.
Sorry you did some quick editing prior to my post. Should read your second last scentence is exactly what the issue is, and your last scentence, that's pretty debatable I'd say. Especially based on the sample size in here, looks like it would be split 50/50 amoung passionate Flames fans.

Fair enough. And yes, I will be just as upset if Iginla chooses Vancouver.
I don't know. I'm kind of torn. Part of me doesn't care. Part of me doesn't want to see him go to Vancouver.

Thats not consequential to him in any way though. If he goes there or even strongly considers it you already know what he thinks about the fans that may get upset.

So your point in bringing up what Tiger did in light of the Iginla discussion is to demonstrate that every decision has consequences? Subtle rhetoric indeed.
And those consequences are that the rabble will be angry? Maybe for a short period but that'll all wash away after he retires and besides he's not in the business of pleasing a fanbase that he has already pleased for 10+ years, he's trying to win a cup and get paid to do so.
He'll still have his number retired. He'll still hold a number of Flames' records. He'll still be the face of an era for this franchise. None of that will change, because it can't change.

I agree. What's your point? You are simply pointing out the mindset Iginla would be in if he makes that choice, and I agree. It's that mindset some people would be upset about, and IMO rightfully so. If he choses the Nucks, he is saying he doesn't give a crap about what the a large portion of the fans of this city, where his legacy has been created care about.
Some folks think he should be a little bit more mindful of the feelings of the fans that paid his salary, bought his jersey's and are responsible for the bulk of his popularity.
Again, I doubt at all he makes this choice, so we are talking in hypotheticals, and I have no problem with him understanding all his options, but I'd get it if folks are pissed about it if he chooses the Nucks.

No attempt at subtle rhetoric, but I can understand the acusation. My thought process was meerly:
- Find a well know example that people will recognize
- Find something that will be easily identifiable as a right, but also the majority would understand as something not taken kindly too by those impacted (assumed the bulk would feel adultery is not a nice thing).
- Use it to clarify the difference between ones Rights and potential impacts of actions.
As for the rest of your post, I actually agree. 10 years after Iggy retires, I'm guess the bulk of the fan base will forgive a stint with the Nucks (although maybe less if he actually wins a cup with them) and all will be forgiven. But for the next 10 years, I think this will impact his relationship with this city, the fans and the org. But as you point out, that's up to him.

I don't care how much money you have why would you keep a house worth $4 million that you're not living in?
He had no use for that house whatsoever.
Should he have built a shrine for you to visit daily?
