I don't think he was terrible per se, just overprojected, and subsequently overpaid. He could proably be an alright 5-6 guy who plays some PP. I think the problem was that he got paid as a top 3 guy with a long term deal after one good year in the NHL though. Essentially 26 million over 6 years for one good season. Basically being in the right place at the right time after Chris Pronger and the gang left town and Joni Pitkanen didn't care to be there. He looked better than the rest of that disinterested bunch, and appeared to be more talented. Lowe paniced and gave him a huge deal.

I think this is right but Tom Gilbert could have been a solid top 4 guy if he had any sort of mean streak. The guy was just too soft in the corners and in front of his own net. Good skater, pretty good passer and good hockey smarts just not tough enough in his own end. By the end of his Edmonton run his confidence looked pretty much shot too.

Only person I would take is Ballard. Personally think he is better then he showed in Vancouver.

Get him here on the cheap on a 1-Year contract. If he has a good year you can sell him at the deadline for more assets.

Prior to Vancouver he was quite valuable. He was the main piece in return for Jokinen when he got traded from Florida, and returned Bernier, Grabner, and a 1st from Vancouver.

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie 25m Filip Kuba is getting a compliance buyout from FLA. Has a NMC, doesn't need to go on waivers. Consider him bought out.
