Why does everyone keep bringing up the market size of Atlanta and Phoenix? No one was watching. No one ever watched. I just dont get it. I understand advertisers like to hear about they reach all these people but don't they also look at the numbers and come to the conclusion that it makes no difference??

I've wondered about this, does NBC look at presence in Phoenix and assign points even though the ratings are so low? I mean sure Phoenix is a huge market, but do they count it as one when nobody is watching? My guess is that it's somewhere in the middle, the acknowledge the potential viewers but also deduct for the actual market penetration. I'll have to ask a friend in ad sales if he knows how things like that might be viewed.

I'm happy for them. Now they can re-focus on building a stronger fanbase and attracting players that want stability. As much as people want to harp on the average fans for not supporting the team for the past 4 years, it is really hard to convince people to dedicate themselves to a team that might be moving soon.
This is a new beginning for this franchise and I am happy for the fans. I do hope that Quebec City gets a team at some point, but that is a completely different issue.
Phoenix is a big TV market and has some geographic value as well. Not to mention the intrinsic value for franchise continuity within the league. It's never a good situation when a team is forced to relocate.

This is far from over yet, as soon as pen is put to paper I guarantee the GWI will have this in court in no time.

Don't count on it.. as they didn't challenge Jamison and left Ken Jones high and dry in his previous failed (Miserably) Referendum attempt. The Team is paying Glendale streams of revenue and has partnered with a world class event booking organization.
How is there any gift clause issue? They had zero representatives at the Council Meeting last night.

I haven't read it, but is one of the points that the team can be relocated after $50 million in losses OR five years or is it AND five years?

People in advertising only pay attention to the largest number put in front of them.
If you ran a powerpoint to the right bunch where one slide says 4.2 MILLION and the next reads "... venomous killer bees but only 4 thousand hockey fans", you could still get a hockey rink built anywhere you wanted.

At least they found a more suitably sized arena for the number of people attending the games.

Attendance looks the same as a regular season game.

Classy stuff ITT.
Yeah, let's frown upon a non traditional market embracing players who aren't even on the team yet.

Actually I think it is a great sign that there is interest in prospects but those are the same fans that go to the games....all 3000 of them. Kudo's to you though Bouw for your dedication but lets be honest here, there is not near a big enough fan base to justify keeping the team there.

I love your dedication, Bouw n Arrow, as well as your contribution to this site, but I'm gonna rip on that team and its fan base with no mercy (and only the slightest regard to the facts) until they move.
And as such:
It's the coldest building in the city, in Arizona, in goddamn July. I'd go watch a European handball prospects camp to get in out of 45 degree heat.

Looks like the Ice Den in Scottsdale and it was that crowded with minor hockey when I was there on a random day in November last year as well.
Busy place.

Not quite. On Monday night, "the prospective owners of the Phoenix Coyotes have signed their lease agreement for Jobing.com Arena."
There are still things that need to be completed, but, the article goes on to say that those will be formalities.
