Thats BS. Iggy didnt even wanna talk contract until he saw how the season was gonna unfold- that was no secret. Not him, not Feaster discussed it because they obviously had a side agreement. If the team sucks- trade me. He didn't want to sign any extention until he knew whether or not we were playoff bound or not- don't blame it on fans running him out- we are not stupid as fans, we saw he wasn't re-signing and we knew why and wanted something at least for him rather than loosing him for nothing- I'm sure Jay did too. But this was all Iggy, don't kid yourself- he held all the cards and could of stayed, or tried to secretly save face like he did.

No. Just No. We're trying to build a new team identity and having Iggy back would be pointless to that end. Other than a 1 day contract to retire as a Flame, the sun has set on the Iginla era, time for a new outlook.

What's your point? He cares about his family? He's not the only NHLer with a family.

His wife can live in Kelowna, she's a stay at home mom.

Any more than league minimum and he's just fooling everyone that he wants to win
 |
Im pretty sure the NHLPA would not approve of that, as it muddles up contracts of similar players who may not be going down the same road. If Iggy hits 40 and starts to look around at 1.5 it would be feasible, but not now.

That logic was sound before linkage, but now if Iggy wants to take league min, that's more money for the rest of the PA membership.

Unfortunately, sound logic is not one of the PA's strong points. They still feel a need to kick and scream for every dollar on each individual contract. Eight years after the cap came in, they still haven't figured out that they are only arguing among themselves about how to divvy up a guaranteed pie.

all I am saying is, if his wife says "all things considered I want to live in this area" and he chooses to do so it doesn't make him evil. Not every NHL'er has a choice of which team he can play for

when given the choice many of them choose to play near family

his family comes before anything he owes to flames fans, and you could say that about any player in the league

His wife will go where he goes because he pays the bills and has given her a wonderful blessed life where she doesn't have to worry about anything. Most players go to where they are traded to, not where their family lives or where their wife prefers to live. There is of course the odd exception to the rule, and usually these are guys in the twilight of their years who still have some value- but in the end, you still have to make a living and the man might not want to play there. Best to leave perfect living arrangements when the guy retires at 40 or earlier (gasp) Also, his family owes their fortunes to the Flames and their fans.

I really hope the Canucks don't get Iginla, but it would be kind of hilarious if that happens.
For the record I have been a huge Iginla fan, despite the fact that he played for Calgary. However he would be no good to us anymore

For one, he'd insert some class into that pathetic gutless roster. But I agree, hope it doesn't happen.

Jarome could backup Luongo like at the Olympics. Don't worry how many goals you let slide in, I will pass to Crosby to get one mo.... wait i'm not playing for pittsburgh anymore!

Fuhr was also a goalie coach here.

Whether it's right or wrong for fans to feel that way, if he plays for a rival it tarnishes his legacy as a Flame.
He's obviously free to do whatever he wants, but freedom of choice doesn't imply freedom from backlash.

It wouldn't bother me too much for a couple of reasons. First, I moved on surprisingly quickly after he was dealt. Second, he's just not that good anymore and the Canucks would go nowhere with him.
It's still an offensive mental image though...

I think he'd like to stay in Pittsburgh but they may not be able to fit him under the cap.
I expect he will land with NYR. 3 yrs x $4.5M Chance for him to win first cup in Manhattan since Messier in 94 would be special.

Iginla can chose to sign with whichever team he choses. It's his right.
But so help me God, be forewarned, Iggy! If you sign with the Canucks I will cheer against you just as hard as I cheered for you when you were with the Flames. The monumental feeling of betrayal that would take me over would have me wishing and praying for your every failure. I would petition NOT to have your number raised to the rafters here in Calgary.

I understand that my attitude may seem petty and selfish to some. And I can accept that. This is how strongly I feel about this.
