Others have already mentioned that he was a late season bloomer and, playing in Gatineau, was probably already pegged on most lists and wasn't being watched.
Also, by farthe lowest ranking was ISS which pulled down the consensus. ISS is very Europea basd and they likely never reviewed him in the latter part of the season.
By all accounts, it seems that everyone that was watching him at the end of the season and in the playoffs had him ranked higher / as a sleeper.
Someone mentioned Burrows above. I know it' sacrilege here, but I agree - he really reminds me of Burrows. And a strong, fast, Burrows, without the deuchiness and the Nuckness would be ok by me.
this. people who are calling for him dont know him, and more importantly, dont know his father. glad we were smart enough to steer clear of this disaster, super glad the canucks took him!

"The 6-foot-1,183-pound Poirier, on the other hand, is only slightly off the radar. The 18-year-old's 32-goal, 70-point season for a sub-.500 team has sparked talk that he could possibly sneak into the first round"
"It was amazing to see him against the Habs, my [favourite NHL] team."

Can you elaborate on this, even if you do so by PM?
The media was describing Shinkaruk as a totally stand up guy. Never met him or his dad.

Emile likely garnered more attention as a result of his late season surge, the playoffs, and how he handled himself at the NHL and team combines. He seems like an intelligent player with some leadership potential. I'll bet that helped push him up the ladder for some teams. He is the most charismatic of the Flames class of 2013 and I'll bet he develops a fan following.
In fact, have a listen to all of the Flames picks being interviewed, and watch them. They all appear to be bright, including Kanzig.
Back to Emile, that highlight reel making the rounds is definitely exciting.

I was impressed by Kanzig's interview yesterday on 960. He seemed intelligent, well-spoken, and very well aware that he has a lot of work to do if he wants to make the show.
If Poirier is that fast right now with a bad skating technique, seems to me he could easily become much faster with a bit of coaching. Will be interesting to see if that is the case if they 'fix' his mechanics.
fast, big, skates at a high rate of speed with his head up, has power cutting to the net, but the best of what I've seen is converting scoring chances that his own fore-checking has caused. The kid looks to be a great finisher as well..great pik Jay
I think its interesting to note that Poirier is on the short list of invites to Canadas WJHC camp even before the draft took place. There were more than just 2-3 teams that had an eye on this kid. The fans might have been surprised to hear his name called at 22 but I don't think the scouts/gms were. He is going to be really interesting to keep an eye on in the Q next season.

And sometimes if it works, it is better to leave it alone.
I'm not going to lie I wanted Hunter Shinkaruk and when he fell into the Flames at 22 I thought this is too good to be true. Shinkaruk is a pure sniper.
Poirier I knew very little about but from what is being said he has a high skill set and an extremely good skater.
Hoping they passed on Shinkaruk and took an even better player.
I have not heard anything bad about Poirier so maybe the Flames got this one right but most critics were stunned the Flames passed on Hunter including him.
I honestly think they passed on Shinkaruk because they didn't scout him very much. Where the Flames picks were, Shinkaruk shouldn't have even been an option. I think that's what was mean't when Feaster said "we'll stick to our list".

I believe that too.
I remember Shinkaruk was asked like most 1st rounder's are, how many teams have you had interviews with. He said I think 23.
If the Flames were not 1 of the 23 then I really don't understand the logic. I personally feel they had to have interviewed him.
