A ~20th pick 9.5/10 turns into nothing in the NBA.

Better to have one than not but highly unlikely to see any change to your team because of it.

Part of the reason the Raptors are where they are is because of the mediocre draft picks they continue to get and those for the most part are better than what this pick likely will be.

I'm liking this deal. The 1st is nice to have simply because of how far away it is and the possibility that the Knicks may be in rebuilding mode then, thus giving the Raptors a possible better pick. Camby if healthy could be a force switching it up with Valenciunas. Again, to those who've suggested Bargnani had no value and had to be bought out, here's proof that potential always has large value in the NBA. Good deal for both sides I think.

Who cares what they got in return. If they had given him away for free it would still have been a great move. Anything they got for the pathetic jerk is gravy!

We'll agree to disagree. He had value and Masai got pretty much the best he could have given the circumstances. I'm glad some on here aren't GM's. We all seen how that worked with the give away that was the Vince Carter deal.

What year is the first in?

With Anthony hard to imagine they are rebuilding or that the pick will be that good.

The report said it would be 2016 for the first rounder. I don't think it said the year for the second rounders.

Carter had talent and on offense was great. Barfs was just a lazy piece of crap. His return is just junk and just two teams doing some house cleaning. No comparison there at all. If the deal goes through he has managed to get rid of him without having to take on a stiff like Lee etc which is good. The only real value of the deal is this beyond useless tit is gone. This idiotic waste of a first overall pick is removed from the franchise.

2014 and 2017, apparently. They've already traded away their 2015 and 2016 picks.

The first rounder won't be high, because Denver got the rights to swap in 2016. Only way it turns into a high pick is if both Denver and NYK are bad teams in 2016.

The Toronto Raptors and New York Knicks have finalized a deal that will send Andrea Bargnani to New York. Toronto will receive Knicks reserves Steve Novak, Marcus Camby and Quentin Richardson, who will be signed-and-traded. The Knicks are also sending the Raptors a 2016 first-round pick and two second-round picks.

Richardson's contract is guaranteed for only the first year, so the Raptors can drop him at that point. Similarly, in 2014-15, Camby's contract is guaranteed for only $1 million or so. If he decided to retire or decides to stick it out for a year in hopes that the Raptors can trade him to a contender, the Raptors are still better off.

Knicks are paying into the luxury (approx $72 million) on Stoudemire, Chandler, Anthony, and Bargnani. That has to be the most expensive frontcourt in the league.

Marc Stein ‏@ESPNSteinLine 2h
My man @WindhorstESPN reporting that Pistons have offered expiring deals of Rodney Stuckey and Charlie Villanueva to Toronto for Rudy Gay

Forget about whichever team lands D12, Masai pulls this one off and the Raps are the winners of the 2013 offseason.

The Toronto Raptors need to seriously consider doing what they need to do to make Wiggins a possibility next year.

Masai needs to dump Gay, then see what he can get for DeRozan and Wiggins is in their sights.

^^^yup...never seems like the last place club gets the #1 overall pick.
Still the Raps have to try I think, they need a generational player. Not 100% sure Wiggins is that, but he would certainly help.

Even of you don't get Wiggins theres some real good talent right behind him in guys like Parker, Smart, Randle.

They should tank. Trade DD, Gay, Lowry....Build around JV and whoever they get in next draft. Just stink the joint.

Raptor fans are used to losing, another losing season or two won't be a big deal

I don't think you need to tank right off the bat. If someone's going to overpay with prospects and picks for a guy like Gay or DeRozan, absolutely go for it. Otherwise, let the current group roll into next year, and make a decision by around Christmas whether to blow it up or not.

There's also the possibility that it ends up being a great season to pick up talent with a lot sellers and very few buyers. The best strategy is rarely what everyone else is doing, and there might be the opportunity for a savvy and opportunistic GM (Ujiri, hopefully) to rob a bunch of other teams blind.

The team is going nowhere with Gay as its best player and likely can't win with Gay as its second best player either. With the money he makes tough to imagine getting 2 guys better than him on the roster.

Get rid of him, and hopefully DD as well, and build this team the right way with actual talent as the core of the team and not a selfish scorer with poor defense and a crazy contract.

As mentioned by others a team built around a top 5 pick next year and Valanciunas actually looks like the nucleus of a team that could contend and a not a team that is fighting for 8th like the team is currently built.
