How happy is Nashville tonight?
The ability to bring him in as a component instead of the saviour? Great crossover marketing appeal?
Perfect opportunity

Overall it was a good draft. Would have liked the team to address the void on RW, but they may be able to convert a LW or C to RW. It isn't an easy transition but they Flames have some talent in the organization that might make a successful transition. The best part of the draft is the size and skill the Flames added. What made the day great was coming away with all three first rounders and not dealing away any of our top prospects in trade. The system took a real good shot in the arm and added some interesting players. I was hoping for a trade or two for more picks but it sounds like teams weren't inclined to make those deals today. The rebuild begins with a flourish! I say 7 out of 10.

Don't like that we passed on Shinkaruk at 22, even though Poirier looks like a decent pick.
Klimchuk is a solid but unspectacular pick at 28.
Kanzing is not the type of player to take the in third round, would've liked a Bjorkstrand or similar instead.
Fourth and beyond, it's all the same to me.

You dock points because drafting Monahan was obvious?
But preferred Shinkaruk, even though that would have been "obvious"

I don't give a lot of credit for not screwing up the easy. I dock a lot of points for screwing up the easy. It makes sense.
Does a bell ring on your computer any time I post?

I hope Klimchuk's jaundice clears up soon.

The bolded part was probably why i rated the first round 9.5. It's probably closer to 8/10.
I pretty much had it in my head that they would take Fucale at #22, trade #28 for a player like Matt Read and i would be pissed.

Dislike the second first round pick because I feel we could have traded down a few spots and still got the player but obviously management felt they couldn't.
I'd give it an 8/10 because of that. I really wanted Lindholm but you can't hold that against the Flames as he was taken before so in taking Monahan they took the BPA and a center to boot.
Great draft, not perfect but I'm excited about the players chosen.

Honestly, call me a fanboy, call me a draft nerd but it's hard not to get excited about that first round.
All three players think the game at a high level, all three are skilled players.

I was happy with the outcome. I think the Flames are certainly putting more thought and strategy into their draft process and it certainly does show considering they made expected and unexpected picks. They seem to have a very specific style and mindset moving forward and are really evaluating guys not just based on numbers, but on IQ, and personality as well.
- Poirier. The Shinkurak situation was rough at first, but after looking into Poirier I've become much happier that we picked him. Extremely fast and a quick shot..love to eventually see him playing with the likes of Sven, Backlund etc. Also during one of his interviews he stated that he was RW but played some LW? So if he can be a RW even better!
- Monahan was a great pick at #6. Again, I think people were a little underwhelmed and he was overlooked as the Ottawa 67's did not have a great team/season, but he possesses the skills at Centre that we absolutely need and lack. Not to mention he should make an immediate impact which is nice.
- Klimchuck...great player. Happy we snagged him. Seen alot of him during the Hitmen season and this guy has great character and really good hockey sense. He's got offensive strength but can be that two way player and help defensively when need be.
- Kanzig..don't know enough about him..I'm sure I would have saw him when the Royals came to play at the Dome..but nothing stands out. But hey, he's got size, he's got grit, and if he maybe trims down a bit and works on his skating could be a nice 3rd pairing kinda guy who will stick up for his teammates. Though I agree with most...didn't have to be such a high pick.
- Roy sounds really interesting..his stats are good (though his -32 last year is nasty) but they did mention if it weren't for his rough year going into the draft he could have been a 1st round tier guy. Overall looks like he can put up some big points and has the size to become a legit D.
- Harrison, Rafikov, and Gilmour I'm not really sure about. Time will tell.
9/10
No denying our future is definitely looking brighter and we are starting to build a good amount of prospects...do some tinkering during Free Agency and lock up our RFA's and let the 2013-2014 begin! Pretty pumped!

I thought they did very well in drafting skill, and skill with size. Monohan is a huge pick, and suddenly our future center position doesn't look so stinky.
I was fine with Poirier the kid is high speed low drag. I didn't want Shinkaruk, I thought he was getting overrated.
Klimchuk might be a surprise.
I think that out of the three first rounders though Monohan will be skating here this year. The other two are two to three years away.

Loved:
Monahan, klimchuck, Roy picks
Hated:
Draft strategy- the flames don't have a 2nd rounder, I think that poirier would have fallen, and we could have added another asset with him.
Cammalerri- he is still on the team, would have loved to have seen him traded for a 2nd and 3rd rounders.
Not sure:
Harrison- would love to hear the story on how they found this kid it seems no one else knew of him.
Gilmour- well it gives me another reason to cheer for providence!
The 3rd rounder, never seen him play.
Overall I will give it 7.5.

Every indication is that Montreal had lasered in on Poirier he might not have even made it to the 28th pick let alone the second round.

Take out horak and replace with: granlund, Arnold, agostino
Take out aliu and replace with: hanowski
I think backlund will stay at center and jankowski will stay on the wing. So basically just swap those two.
Otherwise I agree.

I gotta say I'm glad Feaster proved us negative nellies wrong and didn't make any panicky trades, and just made the picks. Even though it seemed like they explored trades, clearly they valued their picks more. The management team does seem to get it that we need to build through our the draft. Gotta give them credit.
