They're going to have to build a big bridge to make Loungo happy.
They just traded a young future number one goalie on a reasonable contract and kept a 35 year old goalie heading into the twilight of his career on a ######ed goalie.
Then turned a 9th round pick into a meh player.
Going into a new and tougher division this year, I can see the writing on the wall for the Canucks and their ego bloated GM

I half suspect luongo to ask thenhlpa to agree to a non buyout contract cancellation.
No way. Forfeit guaranteed money (millions and millions) because his feelings got hurt? That would be the most ridiculous over reaction in sports history.

I think the Canucks had a great day today but lost in that is the fact that Lou and the Canucks are tied together for a very long time. I can see a lot of misery in the future as this is one of those relationships that really should have ended last year.
Luongo's contract just keep getting better and better. He is the PERFECT example of why you don't sign those stupid decade + contracts. I'm loving watching Vancouver being forced to lie in the bed they've made.

I wonder what the other packages available to the Canucks were. I can understand Gillis not wanting to trade within the division, however I would prefer that the return be greater.
I know nothing of the pick that was made and I believe that 99.9% of the board here does not and chooses to believe that he will fail because of the team that he was picked by.
Time will tell but it is good to see that the Canucks are planning for the future.

Close, but this is the most ridiculous overreaction in sports history:

1) Slobodan Jankovic – I thought the Gus Frerotte injury after head-butting a wall was bad until I did some research for this Smear and read the story of Serbian basketball player Slobodan Jankovic in a Greek basketball playoff game. He fouled out of an important playoff game, and as you may expect, he was not very happy about the scenario. In his frustration, he decided to head-butt a concrete post in the arena, immediately dropping him to the floor. He hit his head hard enough that his survival was of concern to the medical personnel. He survived the self-inflicted head-butt, but permanently damaged his spinal cord and has been paralyzed waist down ever since.
Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger9s How will Luongo react to this trade? Some believe Luongo made it clear he did not want to come back. Drama to follow?
Forget who said it but Varlamov got a better return than Schneider
Varlamov went for a 1st and 2nd because Colorado expected they'd be picking in the bottom 10 when they made the deal, not 11th. (deal was made July 1st, 2011)
A 9th overall pick holds more value then an a 1st without a specific spot. Capitals also received a conditional 2nd in the deal. But my feeling at the time was that the Avs overpaid.
That said, I thought Schneider could have hailed a decent prospect as well. But if Horvat evolves into a 2nd line Center I'll have no complaints. It's just that with Gaunce drafted last year, I'd prefer they try and hit a home run with Nichushkin. Loved the Shinkaruk pick though,

So the plan is to replace Kesler with Horvat then??
