Considering they want Erik Gubranson from Florida to move down 1 spot, I don't think that that Gaudreau offer is even close.

Interesting that he's now firing on all cylinders with throwing soundbites out there again and maybe saying too much. He was muzzled after the ROR thing.
Coincidence now that he's not going to have a new boss (Shanahan)?
No point in getting upset in post apex discussion. It was just a term like so many he has used that is left up to individual interpretation...a box of table salt should be on hand with whatever he says.
Just the way it is.
Cammalleri's name thrown out there yesterday and today seems a bit too much, can't imagine it's going to work here long term...so trade him post July 5 after the first tier of UFA's are on new teams and other teams need to backfill and look at other options.

But what if he was a Russian college player? Then it would even worse?!?!?!
(My point being this is a similar situation to drafting a Russian. In my mind, the concern is overstated in both cases).

Worrying comes with the territory when Jay Feaster is your GM and Ken King is pulling strings in the hockey operations. Like I said before I hope for the best and fear the worst with this management group. There is absolutely nothing they could do that would surprise me no matter how dumb and idiotic. I put nothing past these guys. That said I continue to hope that they make sound decisions over the weekend. Its all we can do.

So is it certain that Gaudreau has the abiliity to pull a Schultz?
I thought that only applied to Junior A graduates.

I agree with this, and only another top 7 pick would get me to include Gaudreau right now. Otherwise I like what someone above said about pushing him next year to get a really good feel for his situation.
You don't trade him this year unless it's in a package for an elite pick/prospect.

Absolutely not. It's a possibility that's all and it's important that the organization looks positive to these kids because agents will always be in their ear looking for the best financial opportunity. That's probably what cost the Flames Erixon as at the time everyone knew it wasn't the place to be for young players. Now it's important that the Flames try to improve their image to the hockey world. Being a Western Canadian punchline isn't exatly enticing to American born players that may have options to play for an American team.

Any player can pull a Schultz. Any drafted player can sit on the sidelines and wait for his playing rights to expire with a team. Junior players that are eligible to re-enter the draft have this ability limited, because they will just re-enter the draft. For players beyond junior age, they have the ability to wait out the rights window and become free agents. This only benefits those who have massive years and big improvements in their performance. Gaudreau wis unlikely to use this as there is a maximum contract value that can be signed and the Flames will be more than likely willing to cough up that rookie max contract. This is all smoke and mirrors by the chicken littles on the board. There isn't an imagined crisis that the Erick Estradas of the board have not presented in hopes they take traction and cause a panic. This is another one of those attempts to create a panic that doesn't exist.

I'm a huge Johnny fan, but if you could get something like 5 and 6, and keep one of the later picks, then I'd have a hard time turning it down..

it's funny, listening to both sutter/feaster, always made me feel a bit better as a fan, despite their opposite ends of the spectrum approach to how they discussed things with the media/fans.

How I would answer the questions:
Cammalleri : if there was no interest, or I wanted to motivate him, I'd tell him in person. Not sure why players always have to be called out in the media on June 28..... kind of weird. You'd think you can communicate more in person.
In an interview, I'd say : "yeah, we get a few calls about Mike.... he's one of our best players. However, we are a rebuilding team, nobody is untouchable"
Johnny : "yeah, we get some calls..... he's one of the best players in the NCAA. But, we have a plan for him and there is a great opportunity here when he is ready to come to Calgary"
Lecavlier : "I don't make it my business to talk about other team's players who are under contract. If Lecavlier gets bought out, there will be a lot of teams interested in him."

Pardon me for asking, but I am not aware of the Gaudreau situation.
Why is he being shopped? Does he want to play somewhere else?

He's not and no
All that is happening is Feaster is getting lots of calls for him.
After the 03/04 deadline, Sutter said something very similar... He mentioned he got a lot of calls about Phaneuf but not a single one for Iginla.

I don't believe he is being shopped, I think feaster means most people are asking for Johnny to be a piece coming back if we are to move up.

It's just the worry that Gaudreau isn't going to want to sign with Calgary at any point in time, so he ends up as a UFA once he's done college.

This isn't a worry of the team to anyone's knowledge though. Only fan speculation based on the team getting burned once before and what seems to be possibly something agents are possibly starting to encourage.

Everything you just posted is an assumption.
All I am saying is why not cash in? Players picks whatever.
If you get a lot more than you paid, I don't see how they lose.
Taking a profit from an investment is never a bad idea.

I can't unthank that post enough. Pretty offensive, and ban worthy IMO.

He is not being shopped and Gaudreau has said or done nothing to make anyone think he is a flight risk.
Feaster's comment was just an attempt to tell the fan-base that Gaudreau is highly sought-after... hey fans, a reason for hope - other teams keep asking about Gaudreau... aren't I a good GM?" kind of a thing
