why on Earth are people complaining about Jones' contract? We're not going to have cap troubles anyway, so who cares?

I kinda like it. I'd like it a lot more if we could have got a middle round pick as a throw-in (for taking on the worst contract in the deal, you know), but it's not that bad. I hope that Jones just needs a change of scenery ... he'll get plenty of opportunities in Calgary. I like that we get bigger and a bit younger ... I can't stand SOB but I guess he's the kind of player that you learn to appreciate when on your team. Biggest plus is getting rid of Tanguay ... not the kind of guy you want on your team when you're in rebuild mode.

I am shocked that Colorado took that contract.

Maybe Alex will rebound and prove me wrong.

Meh we get a little bit tougher but Jones is quite injury prone. I guess it's a wait and see type deal. Tanguay had to go but did we really need SOB?

the age difference balances it off. Tangauy and Sarich are both in the twilight's of their career and not the glistening type.

If this team is going to struggle next year which it will at least we have some good physical effort types.

And yes we might appreciate O'brien more when he sees the ice, this team has had a shortage of bite since Iggy went soft.

For people who are going nuts over this trade.. calm down...

To be honest, it's 2 teams getting rid of its garbage for each garbage. I don't think its a bad trade... but I don't think its a great trade either.

That being said, Jones is exactly what we don't have in our lineup - tough, gritty, big. We just have to hope he regains his form.

It could turn into a win-win situation for both teams. I feel that Tanguay has more in his tank than he showed last season (playmakers tend to have long careers - see Ray Whitney) but with his attitude, he needed to be traded or bought out (at least we got something for him).

I've had no problem with the returns he's managed to land, considering the circumstances.
Just FYI, the two 'stupid' NMCs in this trade were given out by Feaster.

I think the Avs are going to be in for a nasty surprise. They're most likely getting the Tanguay from the Tampa days, not the one who played so well with Iggy.

1) Tanguay had a NTC, maybe be only wanted to go to Avalanche
2) David Jones is younger, bigger and plays with emotion
3) Sarich and SOB are comparable. Sarich didn't want to be here.

For those asking for picks in this deal, you do realize we need to ice a roster?? It's a business, crap roster = less people showing up. I am sure season ticket holders don't want to see Akim Aliu play on the top line next season with 400 prospects.

RW was a position of need but the Flames took back more salary in Jones. Not going to complain as Jones can play and Tangs wasn't a fit for what was going on.

Tanguay is no leader, he isnt a guy thats going to groom the younger players with good habits, both times he has been in Calgary, Tangs has had issues with being a floater at times, a country club attitude. He has been an offensive threat at times, but has also played with one of the best power forwards in the league. You over estimate his value, I see the Tangs that played after Iggy was traded, he didnt corral the team together, he floated and it was discussed at a great length on CP he did not have the right attitude for a rebuild. You really think teams are jumping at the bit to give better assets for a guy like Tangs, what are you his cousin.

Either this trade is crap for crap, or its going to help Calgary be tougher which is what the Flames need, they filled a gap an aging floater that shows up when he wants too will get.

Isn't this the same Shane O'Brien that Feaster once gave up a 1st rounder for? Feaster must really like this guy.

Overall deal: out goes a very skill, one-dimensional player that was completely useless once Iginla was gone; in come a RWer (weak position) with size. I call this deal even, since Tanguay is a very good player with a bad attitude, and we get a average NHL player with a great attitude. Contracts cancel each other out.

OBrien for Sarich is a win.

Overall, good deal. A bit bitter that Tanguay took ball/went home, as he was worth a lot more before he started sulking again.

Obviously the 3 goal comment was a joke guys. Come on.

The point is we took one of our only expendable players with positive value and traded them for negative value. You can call it a minor trade but when a minor trade involves one of your teams best players, I think you have a problem.

Better chance of him pulling the "didn't really feel like trying" Tampa Bay crap.

You really are kind of looking foolish.

Lets ignore his track record for one fricken years for a guy in his 20's who's scored double digits three times including a 20 and 27 goal year in the last fourth.

I seriously question your ability to evaluate this trade as opposed to just being angry about everything Flames.

thats the problem he is one of the Flames best players, on any other team he isnt, hes an aging floater, and thats what you get in a trade.

Are you sure he had positive value? I sure as heck didn't think he had much, TBH. Not with 3 years left on that deal and a NMC. People who thought we could package him and our 6th for Tampa's 3rd were dreaming IMO.
