Flames acquire Shane O'Brien and David Jones for Tanguay and Sarich
per twitter
Calgary Flames @NHLFlames 30s The #Flames have acquired David Jones & Shane O'Brien from the #Avs. DETAILS ~ http://cflam.es/1aRL4cI
Quote:
The Calgary Flames announced today that they have acquired right wing David Jones and defenceman Shane O’Brien from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for left wing Alex Tanguay and defenceman Cory Sarich. “This trade adds needed size up front and grit on the back end while also allowing us to get younger.” said Flames General Manager Jay Feaster. “We like the fact that Jones plays a north-south game, drives hard to the net, kills penalties and is a right hand shot. O’Brien is a hard guy to play against, knows how to get under the skin of the opposition and stands up for his teammates. We are pleased to add both of these players to our organization.”

Holy poopballs!!! I am surprised that the Avs would even pick up the phone from Feaster to begin with, but from what I know this is a win trade for both teams.

Not bad. Flames get tougher and younger.
Sad to see Sarich go though.

i hate o'brien.
and jones seems like a run of the mill grinder 4th liner.
haha, and we thought tanguay was worth anything.
I still think this is a pretty stupid trade.

Younger and bigger I guess.
Meh.
Hopefully Jones can start scoring again here in Calgary.

Does anyone know what happened to Jones last year? He seemed to have fallen off a cliff statistically.

I feel like age is the only thing that helps us in this trade, but really? Tanguay is a wonderful player for us, I guess we're really in a re-build with a full tank usage of NOS.

I am ok with this trade. Flames move out an aging LW and add a right-handed RW (6'2, 210lbs).

Just throwing this out there, but bold prediction. Iginla signs with the Avalanche in the offseason.
As far as the trade goes, I don't get it. Unless Tanguay was so unhappy here that he had to be moved. We just sent one of our only skilled forwards away for a big body with little talent.
