If he does and he shouldn't, there's a landlord/tenant dispute resolution service that doesn't cost much that you can go through to get it back.

Never thought of that, yeah.. and getting it gutted and redone is now is probably going to take a lot longer than if it'd happened a few months ago just to one place.

			Thank you everyone for your reply. I should have clarified. I have e-mailed my landlord twice, but so far I have not heard anything back from him. 
 I understand that we are on the hook, but in this case the condo management company can not give us a time frame.
 
 I was talking to a co-worker who said that because the Landlord is not able to meet the conditions of the lease agreement (a place to live) that the lease can become voided.
 
 To be honest I love my place, and do not want to move, but depending on how long this drags on, I need to know what options are available to me.

That would likely only be true if your house in uninhabitable after you are given the green light to go back.
  
As harsh as it sounds you are on the hook for the rent even if you can't be in your place for a couple of weeks. Being forced out of your home because of flooding won't void your lease, it will only be voided if your house is not safe to live in after the fact.

Oh no worries, Im not taking it personally, I just seem to be getting two trains of thought on it, so happy to hear any and all advice. 
  
The term I keep hearing is the Lease is now "Frustrated" and because of that fact rent should at least be pro-rated. 
  
I also just got a text from friends two buildings down that will not be charged July rent. I now this is a landlord decision, but it seems somewhat muddy.

I don't think the lease is frustrated, it's not a situation where a landlord hasn't met their obligations (under the definition of a landlord's obligations under the law).  Things have to have an opportunity to be resolved.

			Got through to Service Alberta. For my situation, they said it's up to me and my landlord to work it out as there is no specific law applicable in this case. I also asked for J-bo and they said you'll have to pay the rent, but if you really want you can apply to the court to terminate and then it will be up to the court to decide (as other posters have mentioned above).

This is going to be an issue, it always is after large incidents.  The hails storm that smashed Carstairs down through to Carsland/Arrowood area 5ish yrs ago, produced a large number of "roofing companies".......
  
I would warn people to make sure the contractor they get is qualified to complete the type of work for which they have been hired.

Totally agree, and I think the city/province is worried about that as well.  We had people walking around Bow Crescent this morning talking to everybody to make sure that their contractors are accredited.

Someone in government - might even have been Redford - already said those 300 people will not be getting the $1250/$500 debit cards.
