Agreed, Hossa's contract is the only decade-plus long contract that is actually worth it in the entire league IMO. Hossa is too important to buy out, and well worth the cost it might have down the road.

I thought it was split between the teams? Pretty sure the league tried to close all the loopholes on these types of deals.

If the Hawks trade Hossa, and he retires at some point, then the cap recapture penalty would come back to haunt the Hawks.

If the team they trade him to at some point decides to buy him out 'x' amount of years later, only that team is on the hook for the cap hit. Recapture only comes into play if a player retires before the contract is up.
