Luongo gets bought out. Don't think Luongo would even want to play for them if they traded Schneider.

The contract is an albatross. Luongo is still a pretty good goaltender, heck he may still be (god forbid) our number one going into Sochi with the way things are going with Canadian tenders right now.
However, in the NHL, especially with the cap going back down, that contract just doesn't make any sense. If the Canucks want to trade Luongo they have to realize they are going to have to eat some of the contract. I can't believe they haven't figured it out already to tell you the truth.
The question becomes, when is the value of said trade worth more than the difference between covering some of the contract, or just buying it out and letting him go without getting value.

Gillis needs to accept that (1) goaltenders in general aren't worth too terribly much, and (2) Luongo is worth even less because of that contract. He's set himself up to fail, because Canuck fans are going to be pissed at whatever he does get back.

I'm thinking more and more each passing day that Luongo doesn't get dealt that they should trade Schneider instead.

It will have to end in a buyout.
Why trade assets when you can pick up similar goalies like Mike Smith or Bryzgalov for nothing, while not having an albatross contract.
Gillis got greedy, didn't look ahead, and now they will have to pay for it.
I am not even sure the trade Schneider and keep Luongo path is even there anymore, not with the way this had turned in the media.

Bet he'd love a re-do of last year when the rumored deal with Edmonton was Gagner +. Say what you want about Feaster but certainly has gotten this team some financial wiggle-room and managed to trade 3 guys with full NMC's (Yes, I know the returns in each trade are debatable, but that is a dead horse that has beaten again and again).

Gillis didn't realize the climate that he was in, nor the climate that was about to get worse.
There may have been a small window available where Toronto would have bitten in fact. But that didn't last long, especially with the Burke firing...
And from there I think all potential trading partner(s) if there was in fact more, smartened up and quickly that A) not only was the asking price for him too high but more importantly B) taking on this guy's salary at almost any cost just didn't make sense.
Fast forward the season and the above climate got even worse, to the point where the situation has been red taped with *DO NOT TOUCH*.
The buy outs going on right now (especially Bryz in this case) are even more cold water in the face of teams. There's no way anyone takes on Luongo now, they've seen first hand the atrocious fallout.
Abomination.

Yup. I give Feaster a hard time, but i rather have Feaster any day of the week over Gillis.
When Gillis is finaly let go in a year or 2, the canucks are going to look back at his body of work and realise that Gillis was one of, if not, the worst GM in the last decade.
Has Gillis had a trade not blow up in his face? Hodgson, Roy, Booth, all brutal trades.

Yeah, I'm sure Luongo would've happily waived his NTC to go to Edmonton last summer.

NO he's not!!! He is the best Canucks GM Flames fans could ever hope for. Just like MacT.
Canucks will have Luongo until they either buy him out or package a 1st round pick with him to get him out of town.

Totally true.
Here's hoping Gillis stays with the Canucks long enough to ensure the Holy Grail isn't besmirched by having that franchise's name attached to it.
If the owner or Gillis had a shred of decency in them, they'd let Luongo move on via buyout or by trading him with substantial salary absorbed and a decent pick or prospect for a throwaway draft pick. Since the first clause of the last sentence was an absolute hypothetical, not likely to happen.
On the other hand, there might be a moron GM out there who could be conned into taking Luongo in exchange for actual assets. I mean, there's at least one out there who signed a declining goalie with a tendency to choke in big games to a boat-anchor contract. There could be others.

Hmmm starting job in Edmonton, or riding the pine in Vancouver. Tough call ...

Schneider is going to get dealt instead once Gillis realizes its either a buyout for Luongo or having to package picks/prospects with Luongo to trade him. Then Schneider gets dealt to Philly.

Though I guess if you're looking to tank Feaster is the guy to go with. As long as you don't let him handle the CBA interpretations.

Yeah, 5 straight division championships, 2 President's Trophies, game 7 of the SCF. Definitely one of the worst tenures of a GM in the last decade.

And what has been the net effect of that? Booth cost nothing, Roy cost a late 2nd. Hodgson for Kassian can hardly be decided after a shortened season.
The Canucks also got Ehrhoff and Higgins for basically nothing and were able to acquire 2 of their top 3 defensemen without giving up a single asset.

The Hodgson trade was pretty brutal but the Roy and Booth trades weren't awful trades. The problem with the Derek Roy trade was that the offensive system in Vancouver has been awful for the past two seasons, putting a new offensive player into the same situation doesn't change the fact that the offensive system is broken. The Booth trade wasn't a bad trade player wise but I agree the Booth contract is seemingly an albatross, especially given that he is always injured.
White for Ehrhoff and Lukowich was a great trade that really helped the Canucks in 2011 as well as picking up Higgens for a third round pick.
Frankly most of the successful GMs are those who build on the tough work of their predecessors who make the big trades of popular veterans for youth.

That's actually the best solution IMO. It'll be a hard sell to the fans and the owners, plus a plate full of crow for Gillis though
