Flames twitter has a Q&A with Conroy
@NHLFlames 56s
.@AHamdon12 We're defintely trying to move up but it will be down to the wire because everyone is trying to move up.
@NHLFlames 40s
.@Pearce919 We want the best available player, doesn't matter position - just the best available.
@NHLFlames 1m
.@TShaffs There's probably 3 players at the spot but I don't want to put that pressure on them yet.
@NHLFlames 32s
.@KevinSynyster89 We like some goalies but it's going to have be at the right position at the draft.
@NHLFlames 29s
.@bowles_luke We are looking at all options and that is definitely a possibility.
^this is about getting bought out players.
s @NHLFlames 37s
.@dallasjewett Pro scouts have been in all week and we've been coming up with names of possible guys to sign.
And it's over, that was quick.

Conroy answering questions about the Draft on the Flames twitter feed:
on trading up
Calgary Flames @NHLFlames 22s . @AHamdon12 We're defintely trying to move up but it will be down to the wire because everyone is trying to move up.
on whether they will get a player at #6 that can play next year:
Calgary Flames @NHLFlames now . @TShaffs There's probably 3 players at the spot but I don't want to put that pressure on them yet.
on if they are looking at any goalies at the draft:
Calgary Flames @NHLFlames 14s . @KevinSynyster89 We like some goalies but it's going to have be at the right position at the draft.

Someone should ask him why the player playing next year has any importance at all?

No doubt in my mind it's those three.

Sucks that this team has possibly learned absolutely nothing from the Oilers failures over the last few years. Why rush someone and waste a year on his ELC when we're going nowhere next season? Maybe you bring over Nichushkin just to have him in the NHL now, but the rest need to go back to their junior teams.

It's pretty frustrating.
If we draft a centre, neither of them should play next year imo. Lindholm wants to do another year in Sweden, which is great. And while Monahan could probably play in the NHL next year, let him go back and blow up the OHL, get on the WJC team, gain some more strength.

I think you guys are jumping the gun on the 'play next year' criticism...
Conroy didn't bring that up, he simply answered a question - and all he said was he doesn't want to put pressure on them

Pretty obvious the Flames are looking at Mackinnon (who wouldn't be) and Barkov as their wish list. They took a run at trying to trade away their 3 picks to COL for Mackinnon, now Barkov is the next target and perhaps slightly more realistically attainable if some sort of deal can be worked out to move up. They know he'll be picked in the top 4. I'm guessing the price is nearly as steep for Barkov.
I believe the Flames like Monahan and Lindholm, but are really trying to acquire the elite talent from the top 3, I don't blame them and I'm glad they're at least trying to "kick the tires" on some potential deals to move up.
I used to be real high on Monahan, mostly for his pure centreman/2-way/faceoff skills which we desparately need - I do see him as a good fit here, however I could see the Flames having Lindholm higher on their list and perhaps may be the #6 pick if they can't move up and that's assuming Nashville/Carolina don't have their sights on Lindholm.

Having a guy "ready" to play next year also means they will be an impact player quicker. That doesn't mean they will play him next year - but if you look back a lot of the young stars all were ready to go the year after their draft. It speaks more to the class of the player as opposed to what they will actually do with him.

If the Flames are truly picking BPA then Nichuskin will be a member of the Flames if he is available. Personally I am warming up to the possibility. A huge power forward with skill. What's not to like...

He might not want to play in the NHL, that's the worry.

Yea Nichushkin is definitely the wildcard that could throw everything out of whack in the top 10.
You have to think a team that has at least 1 other russian would be the most likely to pick him. The Semin/agent connection to Carolina certainly would fit. I could see Tampa taking the risk as well, which would really make things interesting; depending on who Florida picks I wonder if that would slide Drouin down (assuming FLO would pick Jones)....

I really hope the flames don't move all 3 picks for Barkov. MacKinnon yes but not Barkov I much prefer they take Monahan/ Lindholm and use the other picks on prospects. This draft goes a long way to filling the cupboard not worth giving up on Monahan/Pulok/Hartman (hypothetically) for Barkov IMO

I actually don't see Nichushkin available at 6. Think he goes to one of Carolina, Nashville, or TBay.
Just have a weird feeling that for him to work to get out of his KHL contract as he did he was told by a team in the top 5 that they would take him if he secured a release.
My hope is that TBay takes him at 3, causing Nashville to take Drouin at 4, and increasing the liklyhood that Barkov could drop to 6.

I just don't see any plausible scenario where Barkov drops to us. It would require both Nichushkin (plausible) and Nurse/Ristolainen (not plausible) to be drafted in the top 5.
