I would be all over Vinny for a 2-3 year contract at anywhere from 3.5 to 5 million a season.

We have the cap room...just don't make the contract too long.

The only way Vinny is coming to Calgary is if Feaster opens the bank vault. Even then he would probably turn the flames down. Sorry guys, but the odds of getting a top 6 player through UFA market is going to be slim.

I like him and think he still has some fight left in him, but we would have to overpay him I think considering there are bound to be a few contenders willing to take him. Not that we don't have the cap space though.

If he wants to stay in the state of Florida, the Panthers are another possibility.

Yep. There will be no shortage of suitors which it why I don't see him going anywhere for less than $5 million per season.

The bidding wars are going to be different with this year's cap situation. That's what's leading to these buyouts. We're going to be seeing some unexpected signings because of the teams with the available space.

Feaster will probably be tempted to test the PR waters, like the alleged discussions with Richards, and it will lead to nothing. Expect Montreal to top the list of realistic destinations. This has been bantered about there for years.

Just say no to Lecavalier. This team needs to focus on getting better for the long term and Lecavalier, just like Kipper, will only prevent that from happening in a reasonable timeframe. Draft early the next two and then hit the free agent market.

If CHI gets creative, he could be on a line with Sharp and/or Hossa next year.

I see ANA and MTL as the biggest suitors though, I'm not sure what ANA has for cap space

No way Vinny wants to come to Calgary. Pretty sure he wants a shot at another cup, and there has ALWAYS been those rumors of him going to Montreal. I bet he signs out East somewhere. Would be a great signing for the Flames who could flip him at the deadline for some good assets, but very little chance of that happening.

Sure but other teams have cap space also. Calgary is going to be one of the last teams that players that have already made money will want to go to.

We have 2 veterans, that would be 2nd line players on a lot of teams, want out of Calgary. Tangs and Cammi are pretty much guaranteed 1st line minutes in Calgary and can play for a coach that plays veterans over youngsters every chance he gets. Even in that scenario they still want out.

I would do a 1 or 2 year deal at almost unlimited dollars. We have them, we might as well spend them over the next 2 years. Year 3 is when we need to add key free agents so on a 1 or 2 year deal I would take him in a heart beat.

If he wants to go back to Tampa in 1 year I would suspect he signs out West for a year rahter than on a team that will play them repeatedly. After that it depends on if he wants Cash or Cups.

Did you see me claiming that there's any chance of Lecavalier coming to Calgary? They don't have the Iginla to place recruitment calls anymore. Feaster might pull the PR stunt "Oh, we're on him him," but that's it.

Would love to see him in a Flames jersey for 1-2 years. Heck with our cap situation I'd even be willing to overpay (not too out of hand mind you) for his services.

A perfect player for a 'sign and trade at the deadline' strategy. Give him one year at 6.5 and then flip him to a contender at the deadline for a first rounder plus more. Similar to what Dallas did with Jagr last year. Works for him too, as he can resign in Tampa the following year.

I'd love to see Lecavalier come to Calgary but I really do not think he will. This is a case of being happily surprised if he does. Just watch someone snag him off waivers just to kill the excitement of FA frenzy.

This is actually a likely scenario if he's indeed intending on going back to TBL after a season...he'll likely go for 1 year to the highest bidder.

CGY could sign him and Iggy to one year deals... Iggy goes on a 30G pace, and they're moved as a package at the deadline to ANA or MTL

I can't see him signing in Calgary. With the buyout dollars probably isn't his first priority. At his age he is going to want to go to a contender.

It will be interesting if NY buys out Richard's and Lecavalier signs there. Then Richards signs in TB.

3 reasons he won't come:

1. Post-apex
2. Flames are destined for a dismal year
3. He has a choice

In a perfect world.

Flames sign Vinny L to a 1 year deal at max amount. He is then traded at the deadline and the Flames abosrb the needed cap hit to make his contract managable for the acuiqiring team.

Why would anyone claim that contract off waivers when they can try and get him for a lot less as a FA??

(Or am I misunderstanding how this works)
