I been able to help out in roxboro, mission, discovery, sunnyside, and bowness (not too much help though just some unskilled labour). I have to say i'm impressed with the amount of people helping, and grateful for the people bringing food and water (and the odd beer). You get treated great everywhere, but you get spoiled as a volunteer in sunnyside and bowness. Peters bringing down milkshakes down to sunnyside was a nice touch.
Plus, if you want to meet some beautiful women, they are out there cleaning up too.

Particularly if you're one of those weirdos who think gas masks are sexy.

Another round of huge thanks, this time to surferguy (and his buddies) and sebc, who did an amazing job helping finish up basement demo at my place. I can't believe we're looking at moving back home tomorrow, a couple days ago it seemed like an unimaginable task.
Also, my wife noted that she can't pester me about spending too much time on CP after everything that all the great people here have done for us in the last couple days. I'm looking forward to getting things wrapped up here and finding a way to help out others around the city.

I may be free on the weekend so if somebody needs a extra hand, shoot me a PM. I live by Inglewood, so pretty close to most flooding areas.

Spent the day on Bow Crescent today. Tons of people down there, but seems like there is a lot of work still to do. I was helping at my aunt's house. It was just me, one of my cousins and one really great guy who got sent over from the volunteer center. My aunt's house was much less damaged than most on the street. Only about an inch of water in the basement, which meant not much demolition. It was a lot more like a move. We spent the day carefully packing possessions and taking them to the garage. They're planning on trying to dry out and save the carpet. I would probably rip it all out, but it wasn't my decision.

Sorry I couldn't chip in yesterday Octo, I was helping get the garbage mountain moved into the street and waiting for the insurance adjuster and Enmax guy that never came.

That is a much more attractive crew than the one I was part of the last couple days down on 4a street.
I was amazed that 6 guys could demo and deposit an entire basement out on the street in a day - shocking really. It's really organized chaos down there.

If any CP'er that can spare a couple of industrial fans, that would be greatly appreciated. The basement's sub flooring at my gf's family's house is made of plywood and we need more fans to dry it out. If anyone can help, that would be greatly appreciated.

Went to the volunteer area at the Mission Safeway this afternoon, put in about 3 hours im Roxburo hauling mud/drywall/debris out of a family's home. Spent a good chunk of that shoveling debris off the lawn into a city truck.
Wish I could do more really, it's hard to be leaving someone's destroyed home and having them tell you to take anything you'd like, drinks, snacks, etc. No, you have nothing to spare right now, I want for nothing from you.
Although the van who dropped by with Pizza & beer was pretty great, nice little snack break around dinner time.

That would be my recommendation
Caveat - I'm not a restoration specialist.
