The Francis discussion came from the article he wrote.

Quote:
It’s tough to care about Miikka Kiprusoff’s retirement, as it’s not only old news but a sad way to end a decade-long relationship.

Besides, this city is focused right now on people who care about this community.

Kiprusoff clearly doesn’t.

In short, Francis thinks that Kiprusoff's actions of not formally announcing his retirement already are very disgusting and that he is hanging the team and city out to dry.

Ryan Leslie decided to play devil's advocate to Francis' view and it sure sounded like Leslie was even upset with Francis.

Wow, that's brutal.

Kiprusoff has done more for the community than Eric Francis ever will.

Hilarious. The guy didn't even show up to accept the Vezina... he's certainly not going to make a big deal about his 'retirement' either. Miikka, for me, was the epitome of the guy who marches to the beat of his own drum. To fault him for that is just puzzling.

Thats a hack job by Francis. Couldn't even finish listening to the interview. If you knew Kipper was retiring Eric a couple months ago like we did and the Flames did, why the heck are you making such a big deal out of this. Just another spin job to put anything Flames in a poor light.

Flames and Kipper did say he was done. but the Flames are keeping things open just in case. Whats the big freakin deal? Go cry in a corner ya big baby Francis.

Cause we keep on linking and talking about his articles. Eric Francis isn't a hockey fan ("hockey guy") ... his job is it get people to read his crap. So just ignore his crap already.

Probably the same way he got it... his mommy.

But really, when it comes to being an opinion columnist, there are two ways to get people reading your work. The good ones (Duhatschek) use insight and intelligence. The hacks try to invent controversy.

Oh I purposely didn't click the link to his article as I don't read them. I heard his bit on the radio but it's not like I seek out his articles or opinion as I really don't care to hear his opinion on anything.

Well I can say as a fan I never once felt strung along in the process, I think it was clear that last game was Kippers last game as a Flame, if not his last day ever in Calgary.

I sorry but, waving to the fans, signing autographs, picking up game pucks....... Its just not him, and he was clearly done.

Since the season end I have thought there was a 99.9% chance that Kipper was done and a 0.1% chance he would play for a different team.

But we all knew who he was, he was not coming back to Calgary.

Good Career Kipper.
Get some class E.F.

As for Kipper I didn't like the way he went out last year whith Hartley's system hanging him out to dry on a nightly basis. If he still wants to play and there's a draft pick or two in it for the Flames I would be totally fine with him playing in Columbus as they play a good defensive system that will help Kipper look like Kipper again and not the old guy that was getting shelled behind a team that had no commitment to defense.
Is a goalie that requires a good defensive system to shine really that great of a goalie? I think Kipper was top notch, but there is something to be said for the fact that the only times he hasn't played in a uber defensive system (Keenan and Hartley) that he hasn't really looked all that good.

He was turrible in the San Jose playoff series but pretty good in the Chicago series the following year i thought, all thing considered.

Kipper was between pretty good and great his whole tenure. I don't think he had 1 'bad' season where you can point and say he really cost the team that year.

You show me a crappy defensive team and I'll show you a struggling goalie

More like a pylon defensive system. The man stood on his head for this team, he skipped the olympics for this team and if he prefers to retire quietly i'm fine with that. Francis is a tool and always will be. Kipper was a human highlight reel.

One man cannot make the difference over the long-run. GAA is a team stat, not a goalie stat. Sometimes a guy can drag a team kicking a screaming to mediocre success, and sometimes they do all they can to keep things steady. Every once in a while they can throw a team on their back and take them all the way. Kipper has done all three of these things.

Not only is he the best Flames goalie ever, I consider him to be one of the greatest period, if we're talking about goaltending ability and not just numbers.

Is it really a surprise that a goaltender would show more solid stats with a defensive team in front of him?

That's fair, but there is a difference between a crappy defenive team, and one that plays an uber tight defensive system. Kipper was lights out, under D.Sutter, Playfairs and B.Sutter massively focused D systems, but IMO he wasn't simply a victim under Keenan like he was last year. Last year, he was hung out to dry, but under Keenan I felt he was just as much a part of the keeping the pucks out of the net problem as the rest of the team was.
