Does any one have any footoge from Kippers first game as a flame. I think it was against Montreal at home. It would be nice to do up a little tribute for the most valuble flame of all time.

I was always on the fence as to whether Kipper deserved to be in the HHOF. When SN showed the stat that Kipper has lead all goalies in wins since 2005, how can he not be included? To be the winningest goalie for almost a decade...accomplishments like that are what the HOF should be all about it.
The Devils and Flames have been the 2 luckiest teams for the last decade in terms of goaltending. Both teams never really have a true backup for almost that entire time because they didn't need to. Flames fans are so incredibly lucky to have had Kipper as their goalie.
Thanks Kipper, for everything!

He reminded me of a captain going down with his ship this year. My favourite Flame for the past 10 years. I'm still hoping for one more.

Well let's not get too carried away
My favourite part about Kipper is his personality. He's so different from any other hockey player. He's down to earth and cool as a cucumber.

Just an amazing goalie. So glad and proud that he was a Flame. Never mind the Forever a Flame crapola. Number 34 needs to be retired.

Always a fan of Kipper- always will be as a player. Not a fan how he 1) refused a trade so we could get assets while he was sucking. 2) Goes through Finnish media to announce he is going to retire vs actually contacting the team he was loyal to and paid him handsomely for it. Kind of a bitter sweet thing for me. 3) Would refuse to play out his contract for the 1.5 million he signed up for while he got front loaded in the first place. Always a great Flame in my books, but, the departure was selfish and in a lot of ways, handi-capped the team as well. And retiring through a third party and him saying that you guys can tell them is pretty f-in lame in my books.

1) We were not going to get much for him at the time and as much as I would have liked the extra second, I am completely fine with Kipper making that decision.
2) We have no clue if Kipper has already told management that he will retire. For all we know, he has already told them and the Flames are waiting for the right time to officially announce it. Do you really think the Flames didn't have a clue with their recent goaltending signings?

I'm very aware as to whats going on. Flames didn't want to pressure him into a decision. For good reason- he would just most likely say no- However, did you read the Finnish newspaper quotes ? he said that if Calgary didn't already know than you guys can tell them. WTF is that ? Hey, don't get me wrong, I love Kipper, have the freakin jersey and the whole bit but that turned me off big time. Also, he signed a contract- he was paid on it very well. Now, just because he would only make 1.5 mill on the last year of his contract he decides he doesnt want to play for that ? I'm sorry you guys, I love Kipper as much as the next guy but that is garbage.

I understand the quote but from what I understand he said "If the Flames haven't announced it yet, you can". That to me, means that he has told the Flames of his decision and the Flames just didn't officially announce it.
As for the 1.5 million dollars, be prepared for a lot of players pissing you off big time. You realize that this contract was meant for Kipper to retire this season, right? He did the Flames a favor with the cap, I am sure he had no problem signing a contract that had a higher cap hit.
I am not trying to argue with you, I just feel that you are a little mistaken with your perspective on the whole situation.

I'm sure he had no problem getting paid the front loaded big bucks. A contract is a contract. Please don't sit back and tell me that without a shadow of a doubt, like you were the GM himself that his last year was not even meant to be played. That's garbage to me. We didn't need any favors with the cap- we got plenty of cap space. If he wanted to do us a favor, he would of excepted a trade to help the team's future with a pick, anything, except for nothing at all. Don't get me wrong, I love the player, have absolute respect for what he did for the Flames for years but the last little bit was bad- not to mention his preformance on the ice.
I'm not trying to argue with you as well, but I don't feel mistaken at all- I feel a bit like the Flames got screwed a bit. If you are gonna retire- then retire like a man- don't announce it from another country and do it at the end of the year. Feaster has publicly stated that he was in constant communication with Kipper and they were giving him his space to decide. Just because Feaster aquired another goalie in Berra, doesnt mean he was convinced Kipper was for sure gone- he was preparing for the worst. There is zero reason for Feaster to hold information like he knows for sure Kipper was retiring secret- makes zero sense.

This is a thread to appreciate Kipper so I will make this short.
1) The cap space isn't for now, it was for the past however many years we were up there in payroll. Can you imagine the year we were dressing 15 skaters if Kipper was being paid another mil? He got his money but the Flames also benefited throughout his contract. In my opinion, he was going to retire, his heart wasnt in it to play for a different team and decided against being traded (unlike Iginla, who screwed over this team, knowing that the Bruins deal was better)
2) Feaster has said that Ramo WILL be signed and Ramo has said to only come over if he is on the pro roster. They also signed MacDonald to play on the pro roster. I am not sure how you can say the Flames didnt see this coming.
Anyway, enough of this argument...
GO KIPPER!

Except that is not what he said at all. The quote is "If Calgary has not announced it, you guys can do that..." I don't see how you can take that as anything other than I told the Flames I'm retiring, if they haven't announced it yet, you guys can.
Even though he doesn't have a NTC I think it would be a garbage PR move to trade the guy that has been your franchise for the past decade when he doesn't want to go. I'm sure any NHL player in Kiprusoff's shoes would want the same and maybe listening to his wishes boosted the Flames rep in some FAs eyes. Not everything has to be about acquiring every asset you can get your hands on. I'd rather be viewed as a top class organization by players than have some garbage 4th round pick.
Why do you think this has anything to do with money? If his heart isn't in it anymore why should he have to play? In any field anyone always has the right to quit/retire so why should professional hockey players be any different? It's not like him playing for 1.5MM with a 5.833MM cap hit helps the Flames at all.
