Who knows, this might work for them. Their window has a short lifespan, so they hired a guy who's personality makes him a short lifespan coach.

I'm thrilled that they hired Tortorella. He is easy to hate.

I think that sums the situation up perfectly.

Torts is a 'Hail Mary.' I'm betting he gets a year and if he fails then it all blows up in their faces.

First of all, that should be a question.

Secondly, I think its a terrible move mainly because he had a gritty team with high-end skill and one of the best goaltenders in the NHL in New York and managed to coach them into the ground.

Too much grinding and demanding too much out of his players. Sure, maybe it'll work in Vancouver but I sincerely doubt it.

Hes coming from a team that went out of the playoffs because its powerplay was pathetic and they couldnt score goals and going to a team that went out of the playoffs because their powerplay was pathetic and couldnt score goals....

Problem solved.....?
Did you actually bother to point out the lack of a ? ?

Everything else you wrote is far from problem solving, and is simply cherry picking of opinions (not even facts) that support the argument for why it's a bad move. I don't have a problem with that, that's what we are all doing on this board, giving our opinion, but the bottom line, Torts wins more games as a coach then he loses, so I'm surprised at how excited everyone is to see him come to Vancouver.

Far too much hating cause it's the Nucks and hating cause Torts is a polarizing figure going on IMO. This may not end up being a good fit, but the Nucks just hired a very successful coach with a pretty good NHL track record.

Truth is there's a bigger country club atmosphere in Vancouver than there ever was in Cgy. Torts is going to ruin that with negative effect. I can see the core of that team rejecting his style like an immune system rejecting a virus. Sure I hate the Canucks but this is clear as day what the outcome is going to be IMO.

If he coaches the same way in van as he did in ny the Canucks will be a very hard team to score goals against. I think they will struggle to score and the twins will take a big step back however it will truly become Keslers team.

I think the Canucks slide to the playoff bubble next year and this is a poor hire to win with their current core but could be a good move for the future

I did, but thats just because I had to. Its an OCD thing.

In terms of the hire, again, I think its a terrible move because the problems the Canucks have are the same as the problems the Rangers had. Hiring the same guy isnt going to fix that.

Furthermore, I dont believe that even Torts can change the culture or attitude in Vancouver and that the Canucks dont have to horses to play the style that has made Tortorella successful.

So, while it is true that he wins more than he loses, I think this is an ill fit that smacks of desperation and I think it'll blow up in their faces.

Now, I hope it blows up in their faces. In the most entertaining manner possible.

Right now Jason Botchford is rubbing his hands together and licking his lips realizing that his job of antagonizing the coach just became amazingly easier, but I dont think that'll last. They will very soon come to hate Torts.

I dont see it. I think Torts gets one, maybe two years. After which they'll fire Gillis and the new guy will fire Tortorella.

Hes being brought in for one purpose, win the cup and win it now. Or else.

I can't wait for the first time that Tort's blows up at one of the Sedin's.

Or calls out Bieksa for being a moron.

I can just see it now, Tort's standing over Henrik his face red a vein pulsing in his forehead as a huddled Henrik is clutched int he arms of his brother Daniel, tears rolling down their cheeks. Kesler diving across the dressing room in the background while Bieksa gets his neck bolts adjusted.

Some sad song plays in the background, the whole thing filmed in black and white.

Its beautiful man beautiful.

I can't wait until Torts makes the twins cry and alienates the local media, all before the regular season starts.

"I am not biased at all but this is going to fail"

that's basically the thread so far

oh and two players who basically live in the dirty areas (corners/behind the net) and are always accountable publicly in the media and with fans are soft and will be made to cry by a coach they pushed to hire

Torts has been gifted high talent teams that my 2 year old could coach to winning seasons, all he has ever accomplished is turning his players against him. That Rangers team is mega talented and on paper was probably the best team in the NHL coming into this season and he trainwrecked it big time. I don't like AV but he is a much better coach, watch how much better the Rangers will be under him. I love this hiring by the Canucks!

I think Torts will try and contain his "alienation" for the first part of the season. He probably has been told that what he did in NY will not fly in Vancouver. I don't think he will be able to hold it in for the whole season, and that when he finally goes of the deep end it will be classic.

I don't think Torts is a bad coach but i dont think he has the right players on Vancouver for his style of game. I do think Kesler will like playing for him. Not convinced the twins are going to like it.
