After looking at it a little closer its based on a limited number of gps waypoints which are connected by straight lines.

Still doesn't explain the zig zaging in Carburn Park or the route through Heritage Park.

I commuted to work on my bike for the first time ever today. It felt pretty good. I need to find something to carry my lunch, though, as I have a pretty large lunch every day. I was thinking of buying one of those racks with some panniers. Any suggestions on what I should purchase?

I have the Ortlieb Back Roller Plus bags. They're pricey but are really easy to take on and off while staying secure, and I haven't had anything get wet even in the current weather we're having. Highly recommended. If it's too expensive I would just get something that stays secure on the rack while being convenient to take on and off.

Yeah, the ride has been postponed till August 10-11. I'm on vacation with my family that weekend. Half my team is unable to make that date. It's really frustrating but understandable considering what's going on.

My team is trying to organize another weekend to do the ride or equivalent distance.

That's too bad KTrain, but they are going to organize other rides on additional weekends for people who can't make the new dates. Won't be as flashy as the full event, but will be worth it.

Too bad, but given whats happening with our rivers, totally understandable.

I hadn't heard about the additional ride weekends. That's good news. Our team really wants to do the ride together since we've been training together as well.

Yeah they haven't announced them yet, but it's something they are planning.

I usually cycle the Bow River pathway system from the SW corner of Fish Creek park to Edworthy park and back. With the floods, I'm guessing the Bow and Elbow river pathway system is pretty much destroyed?

I ride from Cranston and was curious about which way to get to work now too. Any ideas? I work at Macleod and 50th Ave.

Other than 22x to Macleod, I can't think of any other way.

Most trails run along the river, and anything that requires a bridge crossing is likely out.

Was the Ranch in Fish Creek flooded out? I can get to the west side of the river over 22x - and if I can somehow sneak up onto the ridge in Parkland I'd be golden.

Oh-be-kay-be. I'm headed to Calgary on July 12th to attend a conference that starts on the 18th. That gives me PLENTY of time to do stuff. And #1 on my list of things to do is go to Banff, rent a bike, and hit the trails.

I'm more of a road bike person than a mountain biker, but I can do either. Does anyone have any recommendations for trails? I'm planning on taking the early, early bus that gets there for 8am and taking the 7pm bus back so I have plenty of time to take several of the trails that are in the park brochure.

Nope. The Ranch in Fish Creek is fine. Cycled past there earlier this afternoon. I cycled as far as I could along the Bow River pathway system north from Sikome Lake. Bridges are out. Just a mess of uprooted trees, and tree roots, and tires, and mud... a lot of mud.

Anyone know if the bridge at south land is useable by bike?

Go to Canmore. Highline, reclaimer, the nordic centre. All close together and lots of fun. The only one I've ridden in Banff is minnewanka, and that usually gets closed because of bears.

I rode across it on friday. It's chained off, but that is because the path through the dog park is completely destroyed. You just have to navigate around the 10 ft deep sink holes and downed fences.

For a road ride out of Canmore, head on the centennial trail from park gate (5km west of canmore) to banff. This is a paved cycle path next to the highway. Once you get to banff you can do tunnel mountain, golf course and minnewanka as a loop (great ride around banff) or else lake Louise and back on the bow valley parkway via vermillion lakes (~110km return). In both rides take bear spray, though the bears are usually just eating berries and pretty oblivious.

I have no idea what the path area is like out at Canmore to Banff, but was it destroyed by the flood too?

I'm trying to figure out a fun ride to make up for the Ride to Conquer Cancer postponement since I can't do it on the rescheduled date. I either need a 100-120km one way to a motel stay or a 50-60km one way and then back to Calgary. Nothing too intense as there are a couple first long riders.

I might just do Chestermere to Bowness and back but that's only 90km and will all the path closures right now might be a bit of a mess.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
