Am I reading this data incorrectly?
EDIT: This doesn't directly correlate to the amount of water in the city or the flooding; it simply would mean that less water is starting to come -through- the city.
|
I guess you're right; but I mean, latest reading is today at 2am, at 1388m3/s. Peak was around 1500, so ya, it has come down, but not a heck of a lot.
Levels are coming down too, but very slowly (I like this graph better for depth, more realtime)

I must be a little punch drunk or something, but my first thought was "Hey, this'll be great to neutralize Chicago and Edmonton's team speed!"
It seems like the jumbotron was on the floor, so probably a write-off as well. Never mind the Stampede concert series, it'll take a huge effort to rehab the arena for the start of the season.

Well I suspect power is out to our office in the beltline, gonna be a little while before we're up & running again.
Anyone else getting a little stir crazy in the house?

More than anything, I want to know if my office and secondary site have power.
I know the internet has been out for almost 24 hours, but if there is power then I don't need to worry about much for the coming week... except the client that has a server room in the basement right in the middle of the action...

Someone asked about the court centre earlier...
One of my coworkers was in the area to evacuate his son and took a pic from 6th and 6th looking east and there was no water in the street.

Yeah it didn't really sink in for me until this morning when i realized none of these homes in Calgary are covered by insurance. That is terribly sad!

In hindsight I'm not sure if that's internet or power related, just know I can't access any of our remote stuff currently. But nothing critical is hosted out of our office and I don't believe our building is flooded, we're in the fair east edge of the evacuated beltline area.
But like I said, can't access our remote servers there today.

Excellent update, in the next 48 hours the Elbow is expected to drop 60% and the Bow about 25%!

I would say that if this happened in the middle of the Stampede and with the Flames in the finals, it might be slightly marginally worse. This is a massive disaster as it is and is pretty much as bad as it gets.
|
I'm sorry, but I wish we build a nuclear reactor in Calgary someday and I'm pretty hopeful we wouldn't be short sighted enough to do so in the middle of a floodplain. What was the point of that comment?

Sometime late today I believe...and it's going to be really bad.
On a better note....Discovery Ridge evacuation has been rescinded for a large part of them, and they expect to lift evacuation orders for as many as 6 more communities through the day.
we have decided to bug out to the RV for a couple days so we aren't using city water etc....so everyone stay safe and stay the hell out of the way of the areas where water is moving so the emergency people can concentrate on what they need to and not have to go save your sorry asses!

Perhaps you should have read more than my post. I was being facetious. Someone posted that we were lucky this flood did not happen during the stampede. I maintain that nothing taking place is based on luck and that even the stampede is but a minor issue when compared to the massive impact this flood already has.
