Looking at my THN Draft Preview, Vanelli looks just like I expected Vanelli to look.

I went with Mueller but I hope Hartman wins this since it seems to be a two horse race.

Voted Hartman because he's going to be a sure-fire agitating NHLer that can tally 30-40 points per year.

The Flames could really use a guy like him.

Ian McCoshen. It's not close for me.

Great 2-way defenceman.

Only thing I don't like about Ian is he is committed I believe to Boston U and that means a likely 4 year wait.

Like Raffi Torres ? wouldn't it be easier to trade for guys like this rather than using up a first round pick on them ? plus you wouldn't have to spend years developing them to reach that potential.

And since when do defencemen picked at 28 step in and play before the age of 22?

BC is a great program with a great coach. I'd rather him go there than anywhere else.

Toss up between Petan and Mueller. I ended up with Mueller as a good 2 way defenser with some size and offensive upside is what sold me.

A great program, okay but odds are he won't be stepping into the NHL straight out of college either. I'd rather see him spend two years in junior followed by two years in the AHL.

If you can get a player with the 28th pick that has the NHL career Torres has had to this point, then you made a great pick.

Voted Connor Hurley, one because that's the most Irish name one could have and two I think that with the 3rd first there is a really strong chance the Flames go down the College/USHL route on a strong long-term project.

My second choice would be Petan.

So let me get this straight, this poll is saying most people don't want the Flames to take a Defenceman in the first round? That's crazy talk. According to previous polls, they've drafted a Center and a RW so far, with their depth, you HAVE to pick the best defenceman available with this pick. Who that might be is certainly up for debate. I'm leaning towards Shea Theodore, but I honestly haven't seen Mueller play very much, so I'm hesitant to vote. This is a tough one!

Nope, you still go with BPA. Most of us just felt that player was a forward.

One of those big d men like Santini, McCoshen or Bowey (not necessarilly in that order) should be taken here. If we already drafted a d man with pick 22, then I'd be comfortable taking a flyer on Petan. If we already grabbed a forward at 22, then I would be pretty upset if we passed on a d man with top 4 potential at this point.

If you think Petan can be an Eberle or Giroux then you go with Petan. The guy is pretty damn shrimpy though and could be more of an Ennis type. I'd rather have a d man with size, skating and hockey sense and hope they can develop their offense. That's how you end up with those unexpected norris trophy winning types. Petan is much riskier.

There a kid plays in the Q that I saw play a few games and then again at that U18 WC, Laurent Dauphin. He is slotted in somewhere early second round but depending on who the Flames get with the two earlier picks...

Amazing that after nearly 200 votes, Petan and Hartman are within a single vote of each other for the lead.

If Chicago wins tonight, I'll request the poll close tomorrow morning and we can finish off the draft by Wednesday. If the Bruins win tonight, I'll leave the poll open until the end of game seven.
