I work at COP. So I will either go there to play hockey and/or I will be there to help out with the evacuated folks. Either way I will be heading up there.

I'm on the Board for the women's spring league in Calgary, and our teams have cancelled tonights games. The manager at Fairview has also told me that many other teams and contract holders have also cancelled.

Ya, most arenas have cancelled all ice bookings, as far as I know COP has NOT cancelled their bookings. Trying to contact co-workers, but as expected they are quite busy at the moment.

everyone is running around town like its the freaking apocalypse, yes everyone want some basic supplies but most subburbs dont have to worry too much about flooding and yet every grocery store is bare shelves and people freaking out, Go Home Get off the roads stop worrying about getting to the office or complaining because your internet went out. The city is gonna be a mess for a few weeks and jamming up roads isnt helping emergency services any

Extremely unlikely. Flood waters recede very quickly. They will do what they have to do ensure the stampede continues.

Spoiler!

It seems to me there are way too many tourists out on the streets right now. I took my bike out for a bit to take these pics, but decided to turn back after having to watch police argue with people why they couldn't go any further down the road. "We were allowed to go down here in 2005" is not a valid excuse for walking by the police line. Especially with a 4 year old kid.

Did the burm they built on Elbow do anything? Or did the water pass over it?

hey, I hope so, but the scales of repairs needed for the downtown area alone are staggering. its not just the grounds but everything to do with hospitality and transportation into downtown.

Besides staying at home, is there anything we should (or should not be) doing? Should I avoid running the dishwasher, etc? Is the sewage system overloaded?

IS that bridge related? What areas otherwise are affected?

What is going to happen with Fish Creek Park? Man, last time it took them 2-3 years to rebuild all the paths.

I don't know, most of NYC was up and running just fine a few days after hurricane sandy, and that was salt water which causes a whole host of additional issues. There will certainly be a lot that needs to be cleaned and repaired, but 2 weeks is a lot of time to get things to a functional level for most areas.

just went for a quick drive to the ridge in cranston, and was shocked to look over the edge of the ridge and see families with young children walking along the river valley pathways mere feet from the torrent, not to be a total dick, but i have no sympathy for idiots screwing around the edge of the river today
