Sister-in-law just called me (brother-in-law is CPS)...I don`t think it`s reported yet, but the Calgary Sewage Plant is apparently under water, so you all may want to fill up your bath tubs with water to assist in flushing if the time comes.

That far west is looking OK.

The Bow combines with the Oldman which then flows through Medicine Hat so they will also get hammered, as they did in 2005.

Front page news of Vancouver Province and Times Colonist (Victoria)

Had a call from a neighbour of ours from the West Coast asking if we were ok. Told me that the floods are the talk of the town out there.

Just saying....

With this far from over, and without getting too sappy or melodramatic, pretty proud to be a Calgarian in one of worst disasters, if not the worst, in my whole life spent here. Top notch response, with calmness and organization in all city and civic departments and agencies. Citizens taking evacuations in stride too, though its only directly affecting 10% to 15% of the population, its being handled with the gravity it should. As an example, the zoo and all those exotic animals in danger right in the flood plain? Nah, they'll be OK, we have a plan. The shelter taking in displaced pets.

That said, godspeed to my buddy and their family. They are safe, but unquestionably, their homes are in big trouble along the banks of the Elbow and can't imagine the feeling of helplessness that there may be nothing much to come back to or salvage...possesions sure, but irreplaceable pictures, family heirlooms etc.

Wow CNN, doing a full report on Calgary...

Their correspondent is in ... Ottawa.... do they not realize the geographic gap between the two cites?

If it gets any deeper, maybe the diving Canucks can come here for a practice or two

CNN probably only has one Canadian correspondent, who, for obvious reasons, is based in Ottawa.

Clearly not. My guess is that's the best they could do in terms of foreign correspondence on short notice.
