Who should the Flames take?

So many intriguing prospects still on the board. I'd be happy with Hartman, Bowey, Petan, Theodore, McCoshen at this spot.

I know he's small, but I went with Petan. Crazy numbers for a 17/18 year old, and if he were 3" taller he would go way higher than this IMO.

Nic Petan was really underappreciated this year imo. The kid is a gamer with some good vision and skill. Easy pick for me.

I went with Hartman, but I was was close to taking Petan. I'd be happy with either.

I have to admit, my only knowledge of either is based on what people here have been saying about them.

Went with Petan. Yeah he's small but he looks too good to pass on. Besides, the last two guys we drafted from Portland seem to be turning out nicely.

I went with Meuller. Sizeable 2-way defenceman.

I couldn't decide between Petan and McCoshen, but ended up going with McCoshen. Big, steady, solid skating defenceman, projected 2nd pairing with potential for 1st pairing in the right circumstance. I've liked what I've been reading about this kid.

Well I drafted by position for D because no one blew me away as BPA, there are a lot of good players here.

Of the blueliners available, I like Madison Bowey here the best. Sounds like a player to me with excellent skating and comes from Kelowna which knows how to develop defencemen.

The Flames clearly need a 4th pick in the 1st round.

I think Thomas Vannelli a HS D from Minn will be a first rounder....ahead of Bowey and McCoshen.

I went with Santini as I think he could turn into a dominant shut down beast. He may not be the sexiest pick, but he could turn out to be the type of guy who plays 20+ tough minutes a night against the other team's best players.

He is a very good skater, rarely makes mistakes under pressure and likes to clear the crease. He is also 6'1 and 210 pounds, which is decent size. He may actually be one of the more NHL ready defensemen.

(Looks like I'm the only one who likes him at this slot)

My second pick: Hartman - Heart and soul competitor who plays a 200 foot game. Apparently, he had a shoulder injury for the second half of the season and still put up good numbers (He is also one of the older players in the draft). I think he may have decent offensive potential though and the other facets of his game are very good.

Third pick: Bowey - By all accounts, he is a very good puck handler and distributor who is well rounded. I like his upside

Petan - really? This is a guy who will disappear in the playoffs. Don't get me wrong, I love the small guys and I will get behind any Flames pick. However, I have a hard time believing he will be an impact player in the post season.

Petan? really? wow? a cherry picking slow midget is a terrible pick.. we need 2 way players, McCoshen or maybe Mueller have much higher NHL potential. We don't need scoring wingers.. we were last in defence last year werent we? I could see hartman because he has a very complete game, but to Petan watch the guy play, yuck. its hilarious how much of a bias there is towards forwards on CP.

I just don't think the Flames will use all three first rounders for forwards. Ian McCoshen seems like a prototypical Weisbrod pick, I wouldn't be surprised if we took him at 28.

To be fair, I think most people picked Petan because that is one of the few recognizable names. I know that is why I picked him.

I think a lot of posters will pick Petan because it has been noted that he is high on the flames list. If he is available at #28 pretty good chance the flames take him.

For this draft since we already took 2 forwards, i am thinking D man. Can't decide between Bowey and McCoshen. McCoshen seems like the safer pick but Bowey's ceiling might be higher. Like them both.

McCoshen seems like a slam dunk at this point. Best draft eligible player from the USHL (Weisbrod and Feaster love their Yanks). Offensive flair, big 6'5" frame and a good skater. Would be shocked if he's not a first rounder. It addresses our size issue on the back end.

plus I think he's more of a home run swing type pick, (see Baertschi, Jankowski), that feaster and co seem to like. I like this philosophy on drafting. go with the high skill, high potential, less NHL ready guys.

Between Hartman, Fucale, and Mueller for me. Since we went with size with the first two, I'd be ok taking Hartman. Seems like he's got lots of hart.
