I didn't live here in 1995, but they are predicting water levels as high as the flood from that year.

I lived there in 1995 and it was insane. Head to the top of the coulees and get some photos because that is amazing!

The Kananaskis 100 Relay might have to make adjustments to its route this weekend after a landslide on Highway 40.
Glad the Millarville "Run To The Farmers' Market" Half Marathon was on a bright, sunny morning last weekend. Start line in Black Diamond, running through Turner Valley . . .

Sounds like some melodramatics from someone watching too many movies, yet reported as "news".

My girlfriend was supposed to run the Banff marathon this weekend. Not looking good for that.

The news report is accurate. The water is anticipated to flow over the spillway at rates greater than the 2005 flood. No one is reporting anything other than that.

It happened in 2005, and the city is predicting more water this time. I'm not sure how that's melodramatic. If the guy in charge of emergencies for the city warning of it doesn't count as "news", than what does?

Ok over the spillway...was thinking like Fotze.
Still, you have to figure unless they are manning manual valves and then realize they are rusted out and the valve wheel breaks off like the movies, they should be able to manage the flow starting....now.
Have a party at a buddies house along the Elbow on Saturday. Guessing its going to be a sandbagging party now.

Wondering this too. I can head anywhere and help out. My crew is all sick at home but my husband can take care of things here.

I'm trying to find stuff as well, just sitting at home right now. High River's twitter feed says no more volunteers needed until around 5PM for supper help at their emergency centre, Okotoks twitter posted 1hr ago that those who wish to volunteer to check in at Okotoks Recreation Centre (99 Okotoks Drive). I'll probably head down there and see what I can do.

Haven't seen anything for Calgary yet. I am in mission knowing full well what is coming and sitting here on the computer making Game of thrones memes isn't helping to much.

RE: Volunteers - On Facebook it looks like they're just looking for people who have boats/equipment that can help with evacuating people who are stuck in their homes. Someone asked the Calgary Police if there was somewhere they could go to volenteers:
Quote:
We just spoke to the RCMP and they confirm they cant take any volunteers at the moment due to large numbers but, they do still require equipment such as front loaders or boats with motors.
|
**Edit: this is for High River, not Calgary.
