Default GM meetings: goalie equipment shrinking, no spin-o-ramas & no fighting without helmet

Darren Dreger ‏@DarrenDreger 4m Ron Hainsey spoke to gm's and acknowledged their urgency in shrinking goalie equip. Height of pads likely to be reduced by 10%...

Darren Dreger ‏@DarrenDreger 6m
Spin-o-rama in shootouts very likely an illegal play in NHL next season. Change would have to be approved, but strong sense it will be.

Remove the spin-orama? Ok, so one less shootout goal a year for Patrick Kane and no one else. Thanks guys.

I would be ok with the spin-o-rama goals if they didn't get away with interfering with the goalies.

Spinoramas kind of make sense. I hate when they just push the goalie out of the way and put it in the net. But if they're clean...

Maybe "no spinoramas" just means they're reverting to a stricter "puck must be moving forwards" rule. That's what I'd hope for, anyways.

Fix the problem..ban shootouts. Then we wont have to decide what is fair or not fair in a shootout.

I doubt anyone would score on them if they were clean

Apparently nets will be 4" shallower. Not a huge difference, but it'll be an alright addition to add space behind the net.

Be interesting to see if it sticks:

Nick Cotsonika@cotsonika4h
NHLPA's Mathieu Schneider says NHL will implement hybrid icing next season if everyone likes test in preseason.

Nick Cotsonika@cotsonika4h
Schneider said they're still working out details of how hybrid icing will be officiated in NHL. Not just race to dot.

Pierre LeBrun ‏@Real_ESPNLeBrun 3m Pending BOG approval, the 30 GMs also agreed today to implement 2-min penalties to fighters taking off their helmets before a fight ...

Pierre LeBrun ‏@Real_ESPNLeBrun 3m So if a player removed his helmet before a fight and went ahead with the fight, he gets 5 min plus 2 min.... again, pending BOG approval

It should be the other way around - if you want to fight, then take off your gloves and helmets..

Seriously... tear-away visors.

If I'm making several hundred thousand dollars per year for a job that includes punching people, I'd set a few tens of thousands aside to sort out this problem.

We have just witnessed the end of fighting in the NHL if the BOG approves this. With mandatory visors coming in and not allowing fighters to take off their helmets we will see virtually no fighting in 10 years.

I believe fighting has a place in the game, end of an era.

Both guys taking off their helmets and squaring off was one of the most badass and honorable elements in all of sport. It was a sign that two players had a disagreement, but respected each other enough to settle that dispute like men.

I really really really hate this change if it goes through. Of course, we'll ignore the 'block every possible shot' culture that has pervaded the league making it nigh unwatchable, and far more dangerous what with projectiles slamming into dudes ankles at 90mph 40 times a game. And we won't mandate skate fenders either. Let's just get rid of something totally cool and unique and wonderful to shut up the Bruce Dowbiggens of the world.

Oh and did we mention that hybrid icing does absolutely nothing to curb the dangers of touch icing? And that if anything, it makes them worse?

####ing terrible.

Doesn't WHL already have mandatory visors and no removing helmets to fight?

And they still had 1300+ fights this season

Anything on how to curb diving and embellishing?

I have a suggestion. It's either a diving penalty or a tripping penalty, not both. If it's diving, hit them with a $5000 fine.

Broke ass Burrows.

I really want them to start looking at blocked shots. It's so frustrating to watch as as a fan when it seems like 90% of all pucks shot at the net get blocked. I'd be up for banning the sprawling dives and instead only allow players to go down to one knee
