With the news that the Avs will be picking a forward, what's the chance that Jones is available at #6?

Canes will take Jones if he slips that far

Very unlikely. I could see him drop to #4.

Colorado is ####ing with everyone's brains now.

So...

Col - Drouin (no need for centers.. would be the logical choice)
Fla - MacKinnon (can't resist)
Tb - Barkov (next best forward)
Nsh - (already solid defensive depth) - Nichuskin / Monahan?
Car - Jones / Monahan / Lindholm
Cgy

I think the hardest team to get by will be Carolina, before Jones would get to us.

Call me crazy but even at #6 I would not be excited about drafting Jones. My heart is set on a center.

I think what you'll see is

Colorado - MacKinnon
FLA - Drouin
TB - Jones
NSH - Barkov
CAR - Nichushkin, Monahan or Nurse (they seem to like Canadians but also have Semin)

I'm just speculating on whether it would be possible for Jones to drop to us. Although I wouldn't hate drafting him, it would fill a very, very large need for this team that would need to be addressed before being able to compete anyways. But my heart has been set on Monahan, personally. That being that my confidence in us being able to pull off a deal to move up is dwindling. MacKinnon seems next to an impossibility after this latest development, with the stakes probably driven up further. Maybe Barkov, just maybe.. but now the drafting order has been all thrown out of whack if Colorado actually does draft a forward.

Mmmm, not really. The draft order should only be changed in the top four. Personally I don't see a scenario where Jones slips past the second spot. All of the top four are interchangeable but should still go top four.

Still with that being said. Nichushkin is the wild card in this draft. I still contend he could go anywhere from third to seventh.

That's fine so long as Carolina doesn't take Monahan. I like the idea of us loading up on big, 2-way Canadian centers with offensive upside.

I like the sound of that...

Anyone think Feaster will even try to trade up just to the 5th overall pick? I think they are really high on Monahan and if they get the 5th overall pick, they are pretty much locked to get him I would think.

I'm starting to think the Hurricanes would pick Monahan up. Hopefully not, as I'm starting to lean toward Monahan more than Lindholm lately. I would still be super pumped for Lindholm, though.

I think it goes

MacKinnon/Jones
Drouin
Barkov
Monahan

The logical remaining choice is Lindholm, but I hope our management team doesn't go into "we're clever" mode again.

3rd round where I think they will pick one again: Nick Sorenson (my preference), Zack Nastasiuk, Nick Baptiste, Justin Bailey if any are there.
Hartman is listed at like 5'11 so he's not that big. But he plays big. I'd be fine with any of those.

Frankly we're as weak in top 3 d-men as RW. Wouldn't surprise me if we emphasize RW or D with #22 and #28.

#67 is one of the guys who has really fallen hard in the second half.

Ryan Kujawinski of Kingston.

Stastny, UFA in 2014.
O'Reilly needs a 6.5 million dollar qualifying offer in 2014 or is a UFA.

Still think they have no need for centres? All they have locked up long term is Duchene (and yes he's great, but you could use 2)

Let's say Jones gets passed over by all 5. Highly unlikely, I understand. How polorizing would that be to CP. We've been counting on Lindholm or Monahan (Number 1 Centers) but now we could draft Jones to unite with Wotherspoon. I hope CP has additional servers in place for draft day.

Just wondering why Lindholm's stock has "dropped" lately in everyone's eyes.

Neither him nor Monahan has played in months?

okay scenario time again,
I think if monahan is there at 6 the flames take him and run, but lets say the top 5 goes something like;
jones
mackinnon
drouin
barkov
monahan

so the flames would lose out on monahan but nichuskin (although not a fit for the flames IMO) is still on the board.
Who wants him bad enough to trade up with us to get him?
And what sort of return would you like to see?

Spoiler!

I'm thinking if Nichuskin is there at 6 with Monahan gone you take the Russian but make sure beforehand he's coming over. He's a top overall talent.
