CALGARY, AB -- The Calgary Flames announced today that they have acquired centre Corban Knight from the Florida Panthers in exchange for the Flames fourth round pick in the 2013 NHL Draft.

Corban Knight seems like a good name for a second or third line center. 4th round pick is a touch high, but I call it a win.

An NHL-ready prospect for a 4th? Yes please. Very happy with this trade.

At least he gave his team a chance to trade him to the team he wanted to sign with rather than making sure they got nothing...

hmmm...
This is a very good move by the Flames and Feaster et al.
Frankly, I didn't think we would get him, so one definitely has to congratulate the organization for getting it done. I hope the rumors of a contract being done are true.

That's not a gamble at all. Calgary does that 100% of the time. 2nd overall is better than Calgary's first rounder next year.

Feaster said in the article that they are not permitted to sign him until July. In addition since they have already been granted permission to talk to him and his agent by Florida it wouldnt have looked good if they said no to the trade and then signed him anyways Aug 15th.

That's allowed? Johnny Hockey collects $200k signing bonus, then returns to the NCAA for his final year? Doesn't that contravene the NCAA rules in making professional sports money?

There's going to be a few contracts being signed July 5th for the Flames. Knight, Ramo, Berra.

A Healthy Heatly @ $3,500,00 though? Yes, he could get a 2nd round pick.
|
Yes i was trying to be difficult. The point is i don't think the flames can get a 2nd round pick for Tanguay this summer. I guess we will see because i think there is little chance he is on the flames next year.

Great news - potentially.
A 4th is a steep price just for negotiating rights. If signing him is a slam-dunk formality, then: great trade! But if they don't sign him, Feaster will be roasted (deservedly) for not making it conditional (2014).
Let's hope he is signed, and if so, definitely a very nice addition.
Bullpen of 3rd line / 4th line Cs:
Reinhart
Horak (though he is likely to end up a winger)
Knight
Arnold
Bouma (though he is likely to end up a winger)
DeBlouw
There is plenty of potential there for 2 or 3 character guys to emerge.
Now, let's get going on upgrading the bullpen for top-6 Cs!

Awesome to hear that he's going to be a Flame, thought with upcoming free agency and the canucks fandom that it wasn't going down.
4th rounder is a bargain and I think we're lucky, you take the pro ready 22 year old player every time over the 4th round pick. If he was signed he would have cost a 2nd and a throw in prospect.
That said if the Panthers had zero leverage he should have cost less if it was only Calgary negotiating so it makes me think he gave a short list and Calgary stepped up.

Edmonton was after him as we'll but choose Calgary or the Oilers. When you look at player that have panned out from the 4th, it's a no brainer.
