Don't forget Brett Kulak who was a die-hard Oilers fan until the Flames drafted him.

All this hate is funny. Who cares who he cheered for as a kid. He has a goal of becoming a pro player now and that trumps his favorite team.
It sounds like a good bet for the Flames to sign him.

I should have been more clear, I was saying that if the Canucks offered me (a Flames fan) the rookie max with a good shot at making the team then I would take it regardless of my hate for the Canucks.

Does make me wonder if it could be something bigger between #Flames and #Panthers. FLA needs some immediate help too.
Roger Millions @RogMillions 7m
These are the kind of subtle moves if doable that could make a major difference in a rebuild. #Flames
Roger Millions @RogMillions 8m
Irony, if #Flames could acquire Corbin Knight's rights from FLA. He and #Flames draft Johnny Gaudreau were part of Hobey Baker race in '13
Roger Millions @RogMillions 10h
Knight local kid with great skills at UND. Would be a nice add if it happens for #Flames
Roger Millions @RogMillions 10h
@Bob_Stauffer usually in the know says #Flames have great shot at UND Star Corbin Knight from High River. Wont sign with FLA..hmm #Tradetime

There is a bonus cushion, so the Canucks could offer him the "Rookie Max" very easily and it will be no different than the Cervenka contract where the only money he will take home is the 925k plus his signing bonus so it will never affect the Canucks cap at all.

He's not going to sign with the Canucks just because he liked them as a kid. He's going to look at opportunity and where he may be able to earn more money long term. Think of a company you hate... Shaw for example... if they came around your house with a big cheque you'd be signing on the dotted line.

Yup, couldn't agree more. If I were a rookie coming into the league, I would sign with whatever team I felt gave me the best offer, in terms of money, playing time, development, etc. IMO, it would be foolish to choose a team based on who you cheered for as a kid, unless everything else was equal.

Knowing that the Canucks will not want you to earn your performance bonuses that would put them over the cap and have a lower cap in 2014-15 would make these bonuses harder to make.
If some of the performance were related to time on the NHL roster or games played there are going to be some games that you will be in the minors and off of the NHL roster.
The Flames did that with Dustin Boyd a few years ago.. He made the team out of training camp but had to be sent down to reduce his cap hit/salary paid to get the Flames under the cap. He just got called up on game day.

@bchud1972 anything possible. If Alex Tanguay truly wants out of CGY now, and lives in FLA. Would he make a good swap for Knight's rights?
Did not know that Tangs lived in Florida in the off season. Interesting idea by Millions.
Edit: now that i think about it, if Tangs does not want to be part of a rebuild in Calgary, i doubt he wants to go to FLorida.

The Panthers better be adding a lot if there is any type of trade involving Tanguay and the rights to Knight. He is not worth more than a conditional 5th.

Tanguays value is probably around a 4th-5th ( thats me being nice). His contract is for another 3 years.

That's you being silly not nice IMO. A 55-60 point forward on a very reasonable 3.5M cap hit is worth far more then a 4th-5th round draft pick. I assume he'll have some degradation in skill level as the contract goes forward but that will almost certainly be mitigated some by league wide inflation.

wow, you really underestimate the value of a 50 point forward on the trade market. 3.5 million for 50+ points for 3 years is not that bad of a contract.

Knight said he grew up moving around a lot including spending time in Sask, which is a boiling pot of hockey allegiances.. I wouldn't put too much stock into that comment. Especially one that happened two years ago. If we really want to know his opinion, start tweeting him, he seems to be quick to respond to any and all comments.
I thought the new CBA was putting a penalty or a preventative measure in place for prospects that just decide not to sign? It still seems like a lot of bull crap to me, should be grateful that a team even took a chance on you.

There is a truth or dare question for you wow.... Likely if we were to end up with McKinnon and Monahan that draft pick in 2014 would be probably top 10 without McKinnon it would likely be top 5. Q is a gambler.

Tanguay has shown in more than one occasion that if he is not happy he becomes a pretty useless player. In Tampa he was not happy and thought about retirement. When he found out that Iggy was up for trade he mailed it in. Those are not selling points.
Do you think the flames could get a 2nd round pick for him? I do not.
