I agree with everybody that is saying throw GIo + to get the #5 pick. I could see #22 and Gio getting it done. Top 4 d-men are going to be in high demand this summer. Gio also with a good cap hit.

Unfortunately i don't think there is a chance in hell that the flames will trade Gio this year.

Would Gio even waive to go to Carolina? Funny that 2 years ago he was bona fide captain material and now we want to ship him off as an additional part of a deal for a highly touted, but still unproven player. Not that I disagree at all, just funny how things change so quickly.

He's still bona fide captain material, it's the Flames' situation that's changed. And he wouldn't be an additional part, he'd be the key part.

No way carolina would do gio+22 for #5, they are most likely looking for Karl Alzner+Washington's 1st for their pick or something in that ball park

His effectiveness as a 3-4 with Sarich hinted at a higher ceiling. His performance as a 1-2 was not terribly successful. But in fairness, the defensive play of the centers was not good. Bad results, maybe partly overmatched and partly circumstance.

Gio is ok, but there is no chance you give up #22 and Gio and get #5 back. It's fun to dream, but it ain't happening. They will look for someone a lot younger, and quite a bit better.

Established guy to take over for Joe Corvo? Same age as Eric Staal and Semin. Maybe a situation where they want to improve now?

It's reaching. I know.

Let's put it this way...........

If the Flames had #5 and traded down to #22 + a decent 30-year defenseman I'm guessing it wouldn't go over too well here.

For good reason.

Sure, but we're in a different situation than they're in.

Everyone but Sven and Brodie, in terms of roster players, should be on the table.

You get 2 top ten picks this year and that's more valuable than any 28-30 year old player who won't have any part of this team when we get it where we want it to be in several years.

Do it. I'd offer them Giordano, 22, and our 3rd. Keep in mind that they're in a far, far better position in terms of talent up front than us (Staal, Staal, Skinner, Semin, Ruutu), and with an improved D-core, they'll be a one and done in the basement ranks. If they're eyeing a d-man like Pulock, Morrissey, Bowey, Morin, who could be had at 22, then I think there's actually a deal to be made there. You pull the trigger on that 10/10.

Not really. If you're a Canes fan would you like that deal?

Giordano was bona fide captain material. Jordano is not.

I just dont see this happening. I mean with the Carolina accent drawl, Gio would have to reinvent the pronunciation of his name again,

Nothing wrong with his age.

They want a top 4 guy, he's a top 4 guy and they stay in the first. Add Gio to their roster and a healthy Cam Ward. That's a better team.

They're supposed to be competing now.

Well, I would be over the moon if it somehow went through, trust me. Looking at it from a Canes perspective I still fail to see how that's a smart move for them. I'd rather trade for someone younger/better or keep the pick. You don't move a pick that high for a guy that was barely top 4 last season. He was pretty awful at times.

Nothing wrong with his age, and I am sure the Panthers would love to have him. But you don't trade a top five pick for a 30+ defenceman who might be a part of your team for 3-4 years. That's just stupid.

Giordano is a homegrown talent & I'm a fan, but if you can get anywhere near that value for him I think you jump on it. The key point being that I don't think he's as valuable an asset as many here think he is. He may be our best D man, but that's not really saying much these days...

If we had #5 & #6 I'd be tempted to draft Monahan & Nurse. Two thoroughbred blue chip Canadian prospects to build around.

I'm all for a scorched-Earth approach to this draft.

Cammalleri, Giordano, Tanguay & Glenncross could all go and it wouldn't have any bearing in our results next year. May as well stock up on as many picks as we can from an unusually strong draft year.
