I watch a lot of Flyers games, and Bryz actually had a decent year last year. Philly's collapse had more to do with not having Carle and Pronger in their lineup than it did Bryz playing the way he did the year before.
Bryz on a 2 year, low dollar contract could be good.

I think a 3rd round this year or a 2nd next year would get Bernier. He is a little unproven but worth the shot.

If that's all it takes, I do that deal in a heartbeat, maybe try and throw in one of our goalie prospects too for a little extra return.
I think a team should always be trying to compete, so for that reason, I would trade 28th pick for Bernier straight up. He would definitely be the best goalie prospect we would get out of the draft, plus he has experience and isn't 17/18 anymore(further along in his development.

Would the Kings want MacDonald back or are they more likely to bring up Jones and have him sit on the bench behind Quick? I'm thinking that if the Flames are going to trade for Bernier, they really should send a goalie back the other way and the Kings should want a backup goalie to keep Jones playing in the AHL for another year.
I think MacDonald has proven himself to be a solid backup since the Flames picked him up on waivers and that he is fully recovered from his injury.
If the Flames are worried about this "2 year" window where Bernier could walk away as an UFA, then sign him to a longer contract.

You can only control what return you get for the player and that should be your sole focus as it's total micromanagement to consider what happens after a transaction. If the Kings are really so terrified that Bernier is so good that he would terrorize the Kings annually shouldn't they keep him? Kind of shows a lack of confidence in the decision you are making to keep the other guy.

I understand the sentiment that the Flames could have Terry Sawchuk in net next year and still finish last overall, but value-wise, I believe Bernier is more of a sure-thing than the 28th pick overall. I'd risk him becoming an unrestricted free agent, over the 28th pick becoming a bust.
Having said that, I'm not sure this deal will get done anyway.

Jones isn't even listed on the Monarchs roster right now!

That is odd, Martin Jones is listed on both the Kings capgeek and hockeysfuture pages. Apparently he posted a 27-25-4 record with a 2.53 GAA and .919 Sv% for the Monarchs in 2012-13.
Jones is also RFA this year and only a year younger than Bernier.
It sounds like whatever decision they make with Bernier this year they are likely going to have to repeat with Jones in the near future as he is also unlikely to want to stay a backup to Quick for the next 10 years.

Bernier does not make sense right now. It will take the Flames at least 3 years before they start getting any good. They should looking for a stop gap until Gillies or Broissoit hopefully takes the next step to the NHL.

Which part of Bernier doesn't make sense to acquire?
- 24 years old
- NHL starter ability (although not heavily tested yet)
- un-signed RFA (we can sign him to a long term contract if we really want)
Having a good goalie for the rebuild is good for a "winning" culture. It is good for the kids to have a goalie that can give you a legitimate chance to win games every night just based on his performance.
Personally, I am fine with seeing how Ramo/Berra/MacDonald do this year and going for another good draft next summer but I certainly would be happy if we managed to land Bernier for a cheap/reasonable price right meow.

No, because it probably wouldn't ultimately take that much to acquire. Even a late 1st round pick for a goalie would be extremely rare, if it's ever happened at all before.

Hell yeah. The Kings probably did have plans for Bernier until Quick's sudden rise last year. Not sure who else is in the market for a young #1 goalie, but a future 2nd rounder should be enough if there are no other offers.

Bernier is a greater asset than Bishop or Lindback imo. Ottawa was able to get back Conacher and a 4th rounder, and the Preds received two 2nd rounders and a third rounder for Lindback. I would say both are better returns than a late first rounder even in a deep draft. If that's all it takes you most definitely make the trade imo. At worst you can always sign and trade him in the future for something better than only a first rounder.

The Flames are going to have trade youth/draft picks in order to get Bernier. No point in depleting your forward/defence prospect depth if you believe you have goalie prospect that will turn into a NHL starter. Maybe I'm being optimistic but I see Gillies being the guy in 3 years. If Gillies turns out to be a disappointment in 3 years then you can trade for a goalie.

Okay if the options are either:
1. Draft Fucale with the 28th pick (assuming Hartley wasn't lying about how much they like him)
Or
2. Trade the 28th pick for Bernier
What would you guys rather do?

Easy choice. Trade the pick for Bernier. He's already shown he's a capable NHL goalie.

Stable goaltending is critical to a rebuilding team. If you don't believe in your goaltender, your forwards aren't going to take risks, your D sits back, etc.
MacDonald kind of fits as a stop gap, but Bernier is a huge step in a part of rebuilding this team. Better then both unproven "best goaltender not in the NHL" ... if we can get Bernier for a 2nd, or one of our best goaltender not in the NHL, do it.

Kings G Jonathan Bernier is switching agents to Pat Brisson. Among Brisson's clients are Mark Streit, who just signed with Philly, and Claude Giroux, who is working on an extension there. Get ready for some Flyers rumours with Bernier.

It seems like the Kings value Bernier a lot more than that. 28th pick wouldn't get it done.

Throw in Ramo. We wouldn't need him anymore.
