Wish Colorado had taken it.
I'm sure we'll get some depth from our 1st rounders, but having Mackinnon would've been super exciting.
Even in a deep draft, the chances are the Flames end up with only one or two decent players from the three picks in the first round. Chances of any of our picks being at the level of a Tavares or Stamkos are slim to nil, while the chances of Mackinnon being at that level are about 50/50 I'd say.
Shaking my head at people who don't like the offer.

Yeah, having read more of the thread I don't think it would be as I (admittedly with a little snark) predicted. I'm glad he tried too, and if he succeeded I'd be pretty excited about drafting MacKinnon. However, I'm not disappointed this was rejected, either. I'm very pumped about seeing who the Flames choose with all 3 first-round picks.

Ummm he was pretty bad before Iginla and Bouwmeester left. Also it's not like he was playing for free after the trades. He's making $6mil a season!

I might be wrong here but isn't a team like Columbus willing to spend money now. His cap hit is still 6 mil, I am not sure the extra 1 million makes a crazy amount of difference.

Well Keenan87 wasn't suggesting we try to snag the 6th overall for Cammalleri.
He said one of their firsts, likely a late first.
Not all first round picks are created equal, and I don't see why Cammalleri couldn't be worth a late first round pick....especially from a team that already has a fairly young nucleus, multiple first rounders in this draft, and have gone on record saying those firsts could be available for immediate help.

Why not? Don't we want to get tougher? It will never happen anyways. The Wild would match anything we offer him.
Seriously i can't think of a softer team in the NHL right now. What an effing embarrassment.

It is human nature. I am not sure where you work, but if a company announces that they are going bankrupt and everyone is starting to be laid off, would you still put in 100% of your effort?

Either way the Flames go is a gamble, but to say that Mackinnon is guaranteed to have career as top tier number one center is just inaccurate.
Before the Memorial Cup a large number of posters were touting Drouin as the better prospect. Now mention his name and you get crickets. Be careful about falling in love with a snapshot.....

Wouldn't it be better to draft a guy like him (later rounds) or wait for a Ferland to show up? The first round is suppose to be for players with skill and who can play on the top 6, I am really not sure he is a top 6 player at all. Sure, he is an amazing hitter and what not, but I wouldn't give up a first for him.

Did you not watch the first 10 games of the season last year? You could say that Cammy was one of the primary reasons we had to jet Iggy and Bouw outta here.
Whats his excuse for that? he had no teeth and couldn't eat properly? hahaha

haha and you are a fool if you think we will be drafting 1st or 2nd next year. The Flames may suck but we aren't bottom of the league.
This year is prob the worst year we will have in a long time and we still finished 6th last! without iggy without Bouw and with Kipper injured.

I wonder how close the rejection was?
Was it "no, but keep talking"
or "no, go pound sand"

He had 11 points in his first 10 games and just like MANY other players, he was adjusting after the lockout and with a new coach. He continued to put pucks on the net and honestly, he led the team in scoring.

I hope it wasn't that. I like the offer, but we do need to have at least some prospects leftover!

I am not sure WHY you would say that? To start the 2013 season, from the beginning of the 2012 season, the Flames will have lose their #1 Forward, #1 Dman and #1 Goalie... Thats definitely a recipe for improvement!

He also led the team with a -15. I'm not a Cammy hater but i don't feel he is worth a first rounder, especially with his insane cap hit. But prove me wrong Feast! get me another 1st rounder.

If true, this organization is yet again showing it lacks the patience to develop a winner. This angers me.
