Craig Morgan ‏@cmorganfoxaz
I will have a story late this afternoon on some important developments on the #Coyotes ownership front.

Craig Morgan ‏@cmorganfoxaz
Also, sources tell me that reports of another mystery #Coyotes buyer with a deal in place are nothing more than rumor.

Mystery buyer? *gasp* Could it be the return of the mysterious savior of the Atlanta Thrashers, "The Balkan"?!

Yeah, sounds like this will be over soon.

From what Shoalts says, it sounds like Glendale will cave and Coyotes will stay, so what are you complaining about?

Coyotes Stay!
You accidentally put an exclamation after announcing the Coyotes are staying in Phoenix.

Haven't followed this at all, but this is most likely a temporary thing right?

As a Flames fan who has occasionally traveled to see them play on the road, there aren't many places better than Phoenix to go on a road trip in the middle of winter.

That's my only interest in where teams are located. As such, I'll be glad for them to stay.

Doubtful, based on what we've heard it'll be at least a 5 year commitment if they stay, hopefully longer if you're Glendale.

Glendale, RSE bridge gap on Coyotes deal; vote pending

Checking Craig Morgan's twitter feed, there are few more details, which I have reassembled into a Q and A session:

Q: so what's your gut feeling? Coyotes in Az next year?
A: Don't know. It's up to the council.

Q: Who negotiated the deal, how many council members?
A: Council wasn't involved in the meetings. Acting city manager Dick Bowers took the lead.

Q: Is this essentially the jamison deal?
A: It's similar. ...
Structure of current deal hasn't been released. Forbes report was close, but reflected how deal looked a few months ago, not now.

Q: So we still have no clue what the council thinks?
A: Impossible to gauge the council's thoughts until they see the proposal next Tuesday in executive session. ..

The next step, and likely the last major hurdle in the process, is the council vote, which will require four "yes" votes out of seven. Sherwood has been preparing a report that examines the financial implications for the city with and without the Coyotes that he will present to council members on Tuesday. Based on his task force’s findings, the Coyotes remaining in Arizona would mean about $1.5 million more annually for the city.

Haha, I'm picturing Chris Traeger negotiating this deal! This is "Literally" the best hockey team in Phoenix!

On the hotstove they mentioned that Vancouver wanted to put the AHL team in Seattle but the arena 'wasn't available'. Wonder if this is directly related to the Phoenix situation. They mentioned that July 2 seems to be the drop dead date. Wonder if this is serious or a negotiation ploy to turn up heat on Glendale.

Yeah, I didn't hear what arena he mentioned. I guess it must have been the Key arena but last I heard it didn't have ice making capability anymore. There are two other area arenas with 6 to 8,000 capacity that have the Thunderbirds and the Silvertips, good enough for the AHL but not the NHL.

Probably not. The only arena in the Seattle area that would be suitable for an AHL team, much less an NHL one, is in Kent, and the Thunderbirds aren't about to invite competition into their building.

Don't forget the Tacoma Dome which can seat 16500 . Watched an ECHL game there once, maybe a 1 season gap.

Could see the City renovating Key to make it more attractive to the NHL. They lost the Sonics due in part to the arena so the NBA won't be coming back to that venue. Renovate it to seat 16500-17000 for hockey and I'm sure Mr Levin can make the NHL work there.

Yeah, I just watched Hotstove again and it was the Key arena mentioned. He said when the Canucks asked to rent it, they were told it was unavailable for hockey. He didn't say who said it was unavailable though. It could be that Key Arena isn't ready for hockey without major work. They ignored this explanation though and just rambled on the Seattle would get the Coyotes if they moved.

Key Arena spokesperson confirms ongoing ice making capability. We've gone to Key for Disney on Ice but last couple of years, they have used Comcast Center up in Everett.

http://www.king5.com/news/arena/NHL-...211315311.html

Quote:
The team would have to play at Key Arena, which would only seat roughly 11,000 for hockey. Daly has indicated in the past that it would be a suitable short term home for a franchise.

Deborah Daoust, a spokesperson for Seattle Center and Key Arena, said Tuesday night that the ice making equipment and chilling system are still operational and have been used in the past for events like the Ice Capades and Disney on Ice. However, she said there had been no discussion, that she was aware of, concerning use for a hockey team. The arena recently freed up the dates that were held for an NBA franchise.

Looks like if the Coyotes move, it will be to Seattle. Fine with me and hopefully my Seattle brother in law can stop cheering for the Knucks.
