He rebuilt the Blues from a bad team of expensive veterans to one of the best young teams in the league, without resorting to big UFA signings. Sounds like exactly what the Flames franchise needs.

For those rallying behind experience and then citing John Davidson just remember Davidson was in the broadcast booth for over 20 years before joining the Blues in a managerial role.

I'm not at all suggesting that this will be the path for Shanahan if he's Calgary bound but it shows that smart hockey people are smart hockey people and it isn't a bad thing if it's someones first gig.

What did Glenn Healy just say about the Shanahan to Calgary rumour on the hotstove? Feed just cut out while he was talking about it.

That he has spoken to other nhl teams too. Bettmen aware likely waiting for the playoffs to finish.

The bolded part kind of hurt to hear. Shanny is probably looking for a place he can feel that he has the power. If KK told him anything like, you can't let Feaster or Hartley go, or Weisbrod will be the new GM, its not hard to think he might pass on the flames.

What's with all this love for Weisbrod? To continue with a serious rebuild program, it takes an experienced GM, not an understudy.

I'd prefer a house cleaning of GM's/Assistant GM's if Feaster goes. Get a whole new regime in place and don't make the same mistake we did when we replaced Sutter.

I would like a full search for a new GM. I would not mind if Weisbrod stayed as AGM if the new GM liked him. I think Weisbrod has some knowledge and would be good to have on many management teams.

Maybe they are offering Shanny Pres and GM positions and to have autonomy. Keep Feaster as v.p of hockey ops and weisbrod as agm. Can't complain about that set up.

bruce dowbiggin ‏@dowbboy 11s Look for announce. after the Final. Huge risk for flickering Flames after meltdowns past 4-5 years. Fate of Feaster/ Hartley now an issue.

What does this mean? How is hiring Shanahan a risk?

It means Bruce is simply stirring the pot with scepticism that bringing in Shanahan is a somewhat risky move. I don't think it's all that risky seeing King came in straight from a newspaper job and that turned out okay initially at least.

If it is power he wants, Calgary might actually be a great spot. Doesn't have to deal with the non-operations stuff as King will take that responsibility. Murray Edwards has other things on his plate (e.g. crude differential) to deal with than hockey trades. A GM that defers to others when it comes to talent eval (and maybe even decisions). I bet city/family considerations has more to do with it than power.

Feaster and Weisbrod fill out the skills that Shanahan probably doesn't have (yet).

Nieuwendyk has been awful as a manager. Shanahan has experience in an executive role in the NHL. That's already more than anyone in our management has.

His inexperience is not a concern for me.

I'm glad we're not going after the Stars' rejects.

Because it's Dowbiggen. If he's the president, he's not a GM like Joe Who was so it's a false equivalency.
