Chew on Feaster all you want but in the end the ones responsible for letting him run the team are the ones you should be pointing fingers at. King and Edwards brought him in to ressurect a dead bloated roster and he couldn't do it. Cannot say many GM's would have taken that job. Feaster was destined for failure form the get go because they were too slow on getting Sutter out and let him handcuff the team in absurd amounts of NTC and long contracts.
But carry on placing all of the Blame on one person and not the entire group. This schtick is getting old. Don't forget how many of you called him a puppet gm in the first place.

It appears the Flames are looking at changing the structure of their hockey operations. Might be looking for a President of Hockey Ops.
Can confirm that Brendan Shanahan was in Calgary yesterday to discuss the Flames with owner Murray Edwards and CEO Ken King.
Shanahan confirmed that he was in Calgary, but would not comment further on the meeting or its contents.

Strange post. Almost like you haven't spent much time here over the offseason. I believe CP had a post season poll thread where Ken King was less popular than Feaster. Most fans are very aware the biggest problem is ownership and President which is why this weekend's news is very encouraging. Just because many of us view King as the bigger issue it doesn't mean some of us are overly confident in the capabilities of Feaster and honestly is there anyone here that would have Feaster near the top of their list to replace Sutter? I don't think so.
Regardless he's the GM so until that changes I hope he does as good a job possible. If the new president wants to change things up you won't get any argument from me though.

Shanahan only has half as many rings as Kevin Lowe

if this was the course to take, why didn't they go harder at Davidson last year?
who knows how Shanahan would be at this as he has no experience, so he could potentially be great, but Davidson was proven..

I haven't read it posted but maybe this is a mutual decision. When hired Feaster said he did not want to be a GM of a rebuild. Since its now a rebuild maybe Feaster does not want to be part of it either???

Because the Flames have a long tradition of being reactive rather than proactive, and ending up behind the 8 ball as a result.

Is there a specific reason people think Davidson would have been a superior choice?

Million dollar question. Only the Flames owners can answer that question.

Doubt that has anything to do with it. He was just paying lip service when he said that since at the time ownership was so gung ho anti-rebuild. I'm sure Feaster would rather be an NHL GM regardless of situation.
That's one reason I don't like him all that much and wouldn't be upset if he went; even if you somehow found an excuse for every terrible move he's made and a justification for the fact that there haven't been many good ones, he's just really embarrassing in general. Dude talks a lot, really likes stupid buzzwords, rarely says anything meaningful. Then when he falls flat on his face, as he has multiple times in his tenure here, it's just embarrassing.
Not that it means a thing in the long run, of course, but if I had to choose between two guys of the same mediocre ability, I'd prefer the one who knew when to keep his yap shut.

Because I don't think they really wanted to do a rebuild last year. I honestly think it wasn't in there plans until Iginla was traded.

Is there a specific reason people think Davidson was willing to come to the Flames organization in the first place? (other than he lived in Calgary for a while)

Or maybe it was agreed that when Feaster was hired it was only for a "competing team" and that if a true rebuild happened they would gut all management.

He's somewhat more proven. The Blues haven't won a cup or even gone deep into the playoffs but they were a mess when he was initially hired and under him that franchise has accumulated a lot of very good young talent over his tenure and should be one of the next teams to break through. I know it wasn't because of him but under his leadership the Jackets did a 180 last season. He seems to be an calculated, intelligent president that understands the fundamentals of how to build a team without having to resort to the ridiculous free agent contracts that have been thrown around.
