I think people are forgetting this is for a President position, which can very much be more of a role where is about overseeing everything the franchise does and a good President would allow the heads of each department to do their thing.

That was exactly my point, thanks.

no problem. I also think experience in the front office of the NHL will bring a very unique perspective to the organization.
I am not saying I am for or against it because it's impossible fro me to say, but this is the type of situation where if true we need to believe the team has done their due diligence and like the perspective he brings.

Hope the King part of the rumour is true. Hope Feaster's time is coming to an end as well. It's too bad ownership didn't act sooner

Fun stat about Feaster:
03/04 - 106 points
05/06 - 92 points
06/07 - 93 points
07/08 - 71 points
10/11 - 94 points
11/12 - 90 points
12/13 - 42 points
Feaster has only been involved in one season where his team "trended up", with a grand total of a single point. Every other season, his teams have regressed.

Seems this rumour got a lot of legs. If it comes through, which seems likely at this point, I would've prefered someone with high credentials that has experience in NHL front offices. I'm willing to give Shannahan the benefit of the doubt however. I'm just happy to see that it's possible the owners are finally looking at this right and doing a completely clean slate for this rebuild. It all starts at the top.
It also puts Ken King in a position to focus on what he should soley, business and community relations.

Jokinen was pretty good for the most part, his trade to NY for Kotalik was a bloody joke though which again was all Sutter. Keep in mind that Sutter re-signed Olli after failing here and then making that terrible trade to NY. Bouwmeester was a great signing but we have seen that the way he was used by the coach (Sutter's brother) was horrible for his game. As soon as B. Sutter was gone he flourished and played like a top defenseman again.
My point was that Feaster inherited a total mess from Sutter. A cap team that sucked with no prospects in the systems because Sutter traded them all away like candy. The current state of this team has more to do with Sutter's mismanagement than Feaster sucking even though Feaster isn't that great of a GM.

no tears for feaster although, i have had a lot more patience for him than most on this board.
he'll be replaced by his built in replacement same as sutter was, sunrise, sunset.
hopefully this move brings in a personality strong enough to stop the never-ending management succession string, ala darryl.
it's a new day for the flames in the re-build years and hopefully there's a strong hand on the wheel.

With all the rumours about JD last year, I honestly wouldn't be surprised never to hear about this rumour ever again.

Dowbiggen may have dumb opinions, but he's very connected to what goes on in the NHL world. He wouldn't say this if there wasn't a strong case for this possibly being the case. Not to mention others have acknowledged this rumour.

Fun fact:
You Completely ignored the 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons since Feaster was hired as GM midway through the 2001-02 season.
Also if you are going to count 2010-11 where he was the AGM, you better also count 1998-2001 when he was an AGM with Tampa.
Nice attempt to pick out and manipulate numbers though.

Go back 20+ years when Fletcher stepped down and that's how long we've been in the wilderness.
Fletcher goes, Riser (Seamans' boy) in as GM, Hay in as pres.
Hay recommends Riser should be fired, is let go and Coates (Hotchkiss' boy) appointed as VP above Riser.
Coates fires Riser and is executive VP and GM, Edwards buys into team, Bremner (Edwards' boy) appointed pres.
Bremner undermines Coates, has him fired and we get Button.
Bremner steps aside, King steps in, hires Sutter and fires Button. Appoints Sutter as GM until he was relieved.
Try to find a franchise that has undergone this much upheaval in the past 20 years. The team has suffered due to the conflict within ownership and the bs politics. With Edwards assuming de facto controlling interest, hope the worst is behind us. But hiring a team President that jumped from playing into the league office and having no executive experience at the team level scares the bejeezus out of me and I am stunned with the reaction of people here who seem to be OK with that.

I have seen sureloss post all kind of links before but never seen him post inside info, so I am not just going to take his word on it. I asked him if he believes his source is reliable, if he tells me yes then maybe I will believe it. But "hearing something" does not mean its reliable.

Has Dowbiggin been wrong about something like this before? I don't like the guy, but that doesn't mean he's Eklund.

Wiesbrod as GM
Shanahan as President
Edwards staying out of hockey operations
I honestly would have more faith in that then what we have now.

For Tanguay negotiating rights?
IIRC Tanguay was an RFA not a soon to be UFA.
