Basically it's a toss up. Just as our poll indicates. Both good players, both with 1st line centre upside. If the Flames slightly prefer Monahan I'm fine with that.

Do you think he will be there at #6?

I would absolutely love it if the Flames took Nichushkin and Fucale with the first two picks and some off the board, tiny winger from the NCAA with the 28th. That would be awesome if only to see CP explode that day.

They have to take either Lindholm or Monahan with the 6th pick. The centre position is the most glaring weakness on this team and needs to be addressed with their first available draft pick.
If they take the Russian they are doing a tremendous dis-service to the fanbase and they all should receive their pink slips back from the flight from Newark

To me, it's this simple. The top 3 are going to be Jones/MacKinnon/Drouin in whatever order. The 3 guys the Flames should be targeting are Barkov, Lindholm and Monahan. One of those 3 is going to be available at #6, no matter what happens. I think that we should take one of those 3.

Maybe someone can bump the pic, but calgaryflames.com did a draft segment on the Baertschi draft and there is a brief glimpse of the Flames draft rankings... they had Baertschi at No 8, with Ryan Murphy No 7.

People are putting too much stock in this.
It's a poker game right now for the teams picking 4-8. They all obviouisly have their eyes on a guy, but need the teams ahead of them to not pick them.
I honestly can't believe anyone, including Feaster, is dumb enough to come out and say "this is the guy we want, and only this guy" and actually mean it. In these types of situations, you want to de-value the guys you actually want and hype up the ones you don't.

Not necessarily....Kipper was pretty awful last season. His awful play was a major reason why the Flames ended up pulling the plug instead taking one last kick at the can.

Yeah, blowing our best shot to turn around this club would totally be worth the 30 minutes of laughter.

and then days before the draft, according to Feaster, flip flopped Sven with another forward whom they had ranked higher

Butler is a very solid piece IMO. He's not ready to be a top pairing d-man and may never be, but he's developing slowly into a solid #4 that can step up to the top pairing in the case of injuries.
Given his age and salary, I just don't get the hate.

Just curious, did any scout who posted a mock draft have either Monahan/Lindholm over Barkov? Seems most scouts feel there is a noticeable difference in potential between them. I fully expect Feaster to make a hard push for the #4 pick.

I think the point is that it doesn't matter. The Monahan or Lindholm debate right now is very similar to the Pepsi vs Coke debate. You are pretty much getting the same thing either way (a #1C).
Since Jone, MacKinnon, Drouin and Barkov are pretty safely assumed to be going top 4, that leaves the Canes to pick one of Monahan, Lindholm or Nichushkin. Regardless of who the Canes pick, we will still end up with either Lindholm or Monahan, which is what we want/need.
Monahan would be my choice but if he is off the board and we select Lindholm by default I will still be really happy.
My only concern is if we get cute and either pick Nichushkin or go down the board and grab Nurse when we really need a center and a great one is available.

Unless one of the top 5 pick the Nichushkin wildcard, I see it going:
1. Jones
2. Mackinnon
3. Drouin
4. Barkov
5. Monahan
I sure as heck wouldn't mind adding another european like Lindholm to play with Sven, Hudler, Backlund...I just hope he would come in as a true Center and be able to effectively play C in NHL and not end up playing wing, that's why I see Barkov as the #1 wish for Feaster.
Then again, Lindholm could end up going #4 or 5...
Ah heck who knows, I just want this draft to start already!!!

Take 1 million dollars. Go to the UFA market and sign a d-man. Whomever that is will be an upgrade on Butler. I do suppose though if we are going to suck hard next year, having Butler back isn't a bad thing. Perhaps we can get Anders Eriksson back as well.

I think someone is going to draft Nurse in the top 5. A complete guess, but I just think it's gonna happen. Or at least trade down to us, to draft him and add assets.
